Toner specks along the edge of the page

I just recently installed a new drum and new color cartridges into my HP Laserjet 2840 printer, and colored dots are now appearing down the left side of the printed page: two dots close together, then a space of about 3/4", then one dot, then two dots close together, then a space of about 3/4", then one dot, and so on. These dots appear about 1/8" from the edge of the paper. Thank you very much for any clues to the problem—or even better, any solution! —Gregory

Thank you for your response! I recently replaced the yellow, magenta and cyan cartridges; the black one will soon be replaced. The dots down the left edge of a printed page are of these same four colors. (I could send you a jpeg image of the dots if you send me an email address.) Otherwise I could represent the dots this way, with the perpendicular lines indicating the edge of the page:
    | . (black dot)
    | . (magenta dot)
    | (space)
    | (space)
    | . (cyan dot)
    | . (yellow dot, hardly visible)
This sequence of colored dots runs down the entire left edge of the page. Thank you very much for any explanation!
    Very gratefully,

Rev. Gregory.
Its looks like you have a small pinhole, or divot, on a imaging conponent that is common to all four toner cartridges. Remove the drum unit from the prtr and keeping the green handle close to you pull back the shutter which covers the drum, and look for spots of toner at the either end. If you hold the page with the spots on it, with the leading edge centered and touching the drum, it will give you some idea where the edgeis relative to the end of the drum. If you can't see any corresponding spots on the drum surface.
Put the drum unit back into the prtr and allow the prtr to restart, then switch off and remove drum, this will have turned the drum to a new position, and should show any defects. Only expose the uncovered drum to light for a minute at a time, and avoid touching the surface.
Let me know what you find.
Cheers

Hp color laserjet 1025 cartridge memory error on imaging drum

If the ground spring located on the left inside wall of the printer is ok, and you have tried cleaning all the ground contacts on the cartridge, then it may just be a bad toner cartridge. Especially if it's a third party cartridge and/or especially if this problem happened right after or shortly after installing a new cartridge.

MY HP LaserJet 2840 has a brand new Toner cartridge. Now it won't print at all and we are getting a "OPC at end of life" prompt. What does this mean?

Imaging drum reach 20,000 (black only) or 5,000 (color), replace the image drum.

Supplies life
The life of the imaging drum depends on the number of black-only or color pages that print jobs
require. Imaging-drum life is also affected each time the device calibrates because calibrating causes the imaging drum to rotate. Imaging-drum life is measured in terms of number of rotations rather than number of pages printed.
The type and length of print jobs also affects drum life. A series of short print jobs uses more drum
life than an equivalent number of pages printed in a single large job. To extend drum life, print
multiple copies of a print job at one time rather than sending the same job to the device multiple times.
The life of a print cartridge depends on the amount of toner that print jobs require. When printing text at 5% coverage, black print cartridges last an average of 5,000 pages and cyan, magenta, and
yellow print cartridges last an average of 2,000 pages. High-capacity cyan, magenta, and yellow print cartridges last an average of 4,000 pages. (A typical business letter has 5% coverage.)

We have an HP Color Laserjet 2840 printer in our office. We were low on our black ink drum, bought a new drum and installed it. Copies are coming out perfectly but the "replace black...

The 2840 is a slightly different sort of machine when it comes to supplies. There is a main imaging drum unit which works for all four colors, and then there of course are the 4 colors. If the unit was asking for a drum unit then you should have instaled a Q3964A. It is entirely possible that your drum unit and black cartridge both expired at the same time, in which case, you need a black toner cartridge now.

HP Laserjet 2840 asked for drum replacment afther only 5300 pages but should make 20000. Prits where still perfect but now it refuses to print. Any solutions how to keep using the drum?

Check online for refill instructions and where to buy the chip to replace on the drum, most of the drums today have little chips to replace that tell the printer when they are used up, even when there's still life in them.

Office Inks has a 1 year satisfaction and quality guarantee and free return shipping if their ink, toner, drums, ribbons etc, don't make you happy. Only Ships USA Though.

HP Color Laserjet 2840 now makes ear-splitting whine every time

Did the noise start right after you replaced a toner? If so it must be a bad toner which is causing the gears to grind. If this noise happened out of the blue then it might be a bad fuser drive gear which is the gears that connect the fuser to the machine.

Replace Cathridge

The front panel tells you witch toner cartridge should you replace. If a supply memory error ocures then the cartridge should be replaced or exchanged with a new one. The imaging drum unit is also consumable. for "Joe 50" - there are 4 toner cartridges in the printer.
