Are you sure it isn't an Allen Screw, faucett screws normally are.

96804 looks to be a Phillips Screw.
94770 is an Allen Screw.

The Phillips would be a candidate for drilling out if the drill will bite.

Often it is less of a headache just to buy new. That is what we did, and our plumber is an honest guy, the screw wouldn't budge, rusted in.

Philips screw that holds parts to 1225 cartridge just turns, stripped? how do I get that out

you can try to tap handle loose and pull up on it to remove crew. Personally I would change faucet and supply lines, and not not look back.
tip

Moen single handle kitchen faucet will not stay up

There is what I will call a rubber/plastic grommet between
the top screw and the top of the cartridge.
The screw compresses the grommet and keeps the handle up .
(the grommet has two parts.. tightening the screw closes the
space between the grommet parts)
In my case.. the grommet had a crack .... preventing the grommet
from doing its job of holding the handle up.
Fortunately, Moen will replace the innards.

workaround.. .place a rubber washer between the screw and the grommet.
worked for me ... after some pain and suffering..

Moen has a diverter built in that will need to be replaced.

use the same steps as when you replaced the cartridge, but this time you will need to remove the spout, there is a small diverter, you will see it when spout is removed.

take this part with you to the hardware store, along with the O Rings from the spout, as they will need to be replaced also

use a non silicone faucet lubricant when putting back together

My shower/bath control just turns and the water the does not turn on.It initially was dripping constantly then stopped working completely. (Moen)

sounds like the cartridge is stripped where it goes into the handle. If it is not coming on at all from either the hot or the cold....I would say there is a blockage inside the valve body.

Single handle, about a year old, leaking at the

There will be a set screw on back or under cap on top. Remove handle, next use a phillips screw driver to remove the part that holds on to the cartridge. Then a bonnet that unscrews leaving the cartridge easily repaired or replaced. And there you have it.

Compatible replacement handles for Moen Garden Tub faucet

I dont know if moen made chrome handles for that valve back then. If they did then they will probably be lever handles but they wont turn correctly unless you remove the cartridges and turn them. Iwould suggest probably replacing the whole unit.

Chateau Model 2739 screw for handle keeps spinning

I pulled the handle out until it was past the cartridge jacket then sawed the handle and the screw in half. I found that the plastic portion of the handle that holds the cartidge was broken, hence the reason the screw felt loose.
