And it happened during a fifa 08 game, definitely did not overheat have not dropped the game or console and the console is barely 4 months old!!

Any regular CD or DVD lens cleaning disc will work on the PS3. Try that solution. They're only $5 at an electronics store.

I was playing Madden 09, got tired of playing it so i decided to quit and play my Grand Turismo. I put the G T in the system and it didnt read, i tried it over and over again and it wouldnt read. I then put the Madden back in and it would read, neither would any blue ray or dvd's.

I had a similar problem with the PS3 not reading any disc, BlueRay, DVD or CD so I called the help line mentioned below and they have been very helpful and will take the Box away and replace the Laser with an upgraded one. I have had the PS3 over a year and it is still being fixed under warranty. Well worth giving them a go if you have a problem,
All of the sudden (after 2 months) the PS3 won't read any disks. I'll try the lens clening kit as a solution before returning it for service under the warranty.
