Mac cannot play it
Hey,
I had the same problem...here is what you have to do, YOU WILL NEED someone with a windows operating system who has windows media player 9 or higher, because these players recognize yp-u3 and you can write into their SYSTEM folder! fist of all save all your files from the mp3 because you will delete them!
1) you have to download the v1.11 firmware from
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=hu&CttFileID=1496692&CDCttType=FM&ModelType=N&ModelName=YP-U3JAB&VPath=FM/200709/20070918123608406_YP_U3_MTP_FW_VER111EU_070906_WEB.zip
this is from the official samsung site.
2) unzipp it: there are two files with extensions: .ROM and .RSC
now you have tt go to your friend who has the above described windows op. system. if you connect the mp3 player if you open my computer you will see the mp3 player appear as portable device or something like that...find the system folder.
Copy the .ROM first inside the SYStem folder
remove safely your mp3
restart your mp3
it will say something like the firmware is being installed..than it will start
put it back into the computer
copy the .RSC file into the SYSTEM folder...this is the resource file
now remove it safely again
restart it. it will update the resource file.
now go in the menu of the mo3 to settings .. system .. format. this will clean up the memory.
now the mac will recognize your mp3 but you will not be able to copy files, without this program:

NOw you are done. it works for me perfectly...mac os x leopard, macbook.
any problems, mail me...
cheers
