SOURCE: Paper not picking up and alarm light comes on/stays on

Hi, You have the right idea of cleaning the rubber rollers behind the tray, (if the paper will feed through once then we can eliminate the idea of a paper jam)unfortunantly, when the rollers get too worn out then cleaning is not effective. I work on alot of Brother 5140 printers which look very similar to this model, and we pull out the tray, take the pick roller off of the printer, pull off the rubber part of the roller and rotate it 180 degrees from it former position which gives it a new area of wear. Usually that's a pretty good fix, and it isn't too hard to do, just make sure to note how it was put together before taking it apart. Good luck.

SOURCE: grinding noise, no paper feeding from tray

This will work.

If you remove the paper tray you'll notice a black arm hanging down in the middle of the printer...this should be up inside (the cause is too much paper being put in the tray then when the user tries to remove the tray it hooks this and causes it to be in the way of the paper when it rises).

Disconnect the power and remove the toner/drum. Turn the printer upside down and remove the rollers from the purple plastic arm (shove the arm ahead to make this easier). Once you have this disconnected and removed you'll be able to see where the black plastic arm should go. You can push it back up in the printer without too much fuss. Replace the rollers where they go and put everything back together. Voila!

This has happened twice in the past year and both times this has fixed the issue right away. Good luck! :)

SOURCE: FEEDING PROBLEMS FROM PAPER TRAY

Remove left cover (where the USB connection is located);
Remove gear with a spring on it (you may need to unscrew the PCB that partially covers it);
There is a clutch that sticks to the rubber pad behind this gear. You may put a piece of scotch tape towards to a rubber pad, so the plastic from the clutch mechanism wouldn't stick anymore.

SOURCE: Printer jams frequently. Jam is in the paper

Locate the paper lifter and the initial rollers and clean these with isopropil alcohol and a Q tip. These items become hard and polished and will not grip the paper properly, causing the jam.

Testimonial: "Thanks - I tried that and it seems to be working better. Appreciate the help."

Please see this solution from Canon. It is recommended you check your manual for the proper procedure for clearing paper jams. Incorrectly removing jams could damage your printer. Trust the following helps resolve your current issue.

If you do not have a manual it can be downloaded from here:

Issue: More than one sheet of paper feeds while printing

Solution: Clean the paper feed rollers using the MX300 operator panel

sikaku.gif Cleaning the Paper Feed Roller (Roller Cleaning) Clean the paper feed roller if paper is not fed properly. Cleaning the paper feed roller will wear the roller, so perform this only when necessary.

1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and then remove any paper from the Rear Tray.

2. Clean the paper feed roller.

(1) Press the Menu button repeatedly until MAINTENANCE appears.

(2) Press the l_mark_s.jpg or r_mark_s.jpg button to select ROLLER CLEANING, then press the OK button.

The paper feed roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

3. Repeat step 2 twice.

4. Open the Paper Output Tray.

(1)Put your finger in the rounded indent beside the Paper Output Tray and open it gently.

(2) Open up and set the Output Tray Extension completely by pressing down the hollow on its front side.

5. Make sure that the paper feed roller stops rotating, then load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in portrait orientation in the Rear Tray.

Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left.

6. Repeat step 2 three times.

The paper cleans the paper feed roller as it feeds through the machine.

If the problem is not resolved, wipe the paper feed roller (A) located on the right side inside the Rear Tray with a moistened cotton swab or the like. Rotate the roller (A) manually as you clean it. Do not touch the roller with your fingers; rotate it with the cotton swab.

My Lexmark C510 keeps popping up with a Paper Jam 241 error in Tray 1. There is no paper jam. I open the printer door take the tray out, put it back in and shut the door. How can I fix this problem? I...

I have a Lexmark C510 colour printer: Manufacture date June 2005.
I had been getting the "Paper Jam 241 error in Tray 1" message for some time. Sometimes it would print just fine but in the past several months, it's been bad. I'd pull the tray out (notice roller marks on the top sheet that was only partially fed), reinserted the sheet properly into the tray and try again and again. The techy at Lexmark mentioned that I could purchase a new rubber roller that feeds the sheet but that I might first wipe down the roller myself as they get worn and old. I first wiped it down with a damp cloth to clean it then thought to try reconditioning it with leather conditioner we'd purchased for our couch (I'm sure Amourall would work just as well). Voila, the old, dry roller was picking up paper again. Just open the rear door and that grey roller (it's black again when you recondition it) is at the bottom. Hope that helps.

Xerox Phaser 6120 cannot feed paper without help

As this is an old posting I should imagin you might have it sorted by now.
if you have these type of problems clean the feed in rollers with a alcohol wipe or similar. There is usually a solonoid / clutch release mechanism that controls the paper selected from tray. I would go for the simplest solution. Over time the rollers get coated in paper lint, clean water is usually best if that fails perhaps an alcohol wipe might improve matters.
Good luck.

Have you tried cleaning the paper feed roller(s)? Either soap & water OR isopropyl alchohol with a cotton ball will do, just make sure the rollers are dry before trying to print again, otherwise damage to imaging unit (drum/toner unit) could occurr. If the printer doesn't feed in the first place, the printer thinks it has a jammed paper, thus opening paper tray and front cover resets misfeed/ jam condition. Let me know your progress....Tim

On a Canon MP 460 printer, the paper will not feed in straight causing constant paper jams.

If the paper feed roller is dirty, paper is not fed properly because the paper feed roller slips. Cleaning the paper feed roller could resolve the paper feeding problem. Please follow the instructions below to clean the Paper Feed Rollers directly from the unit.Caution: Since the cleaning process wears down the paper feed roller, perform this procedure only when necessary and no more than three (3) times.
  1. Ensure that the printer is powered on and remove any paper from the Auto Sheet Feeder (ASF).

  2. Press the <Menu> button.

Automatic Paper feed

Check the feeder roller inside the printer for any foreign substance stuck to the roller, this may cause it not to grip properly. You can also try a few sheets at a time and make sure the paper tray is gripping the paper, but not too hard. If this fails, the roller may be out of place somewhat, try to reposition it. Let me know how you get on.
