Printer does work when fed one sheet at a time. cleaning rollers with alcohol didn't improve problem.

Hi, You have the right idea of cleaning the rubber rollers behind the tray, (if the paper will feed through once then we can eliminate the idea of a paper jam)unfortunantly, when the rollers get too worn out then cleaning is not effective. I work on alot of Brother 5140 printers which look very similar to this model, and we pull out the tray,take the pick roller off of the printer, pull off the rubber part of the roller and rotate it 180 degrees from it former position which gives it a new area of wear. Usually that's a pretty good fix, and it isn't too hard to do, just make sure to note how it was put together before taking it apart. Good luck.

suggest you bring your orinter to the nearest authorised repair center. There might be parts to be replace
SOURCE: grinding noise, no paper feeding from tray
This will work.
If you remove the paper tray you'll notice a
black arm hanging down in the middle of the printer...this should be up
inside (the cause is too much paper being put in the tray then when the
user tries to remove the tray it hooks this and causes it to be in the
way of the paper when it rises).
Disconnect the power and remove
the toner/drum. Turn the printer upside down and remove the rollers
from the purple plastic arm (shove the arm ahead to make this easier).
Once you have this disconnected and removed you'll be able to see where
the black plastic arm should go. You can push it back up in the printer
without too much fuss. Replace the rollers where they go and put
everything back together. Voila!
This has happened twice in the past year and both times this has fixed the issue right away. Good luck! :)

Remove left cover (where the USB connection is located);
Remove gear with a spring on it (you may need to unscrew the PCB that partially covers it);
There is a clutch that sticks to the rubber pad behind this gear. You may put a piece of scotch tape towards to a rubber pad, so the plastic from the clutch mechanism wouldn't stick anymore.

SOURCE: Printer jams frequently. Jam is in the paper
Locate the paper lifter and the initial rollers and clean these with isopropil alcohol and a Q tip. These items become hard and polished and will not grip the paper properly, causing the jam.
