Check the belt. it may be broken or, it may have slipped of the pulley or drive motor. if the belt is fine, replace the motor.

Same trouble with mine. The belt looked ok ,it spun the drum but under load worked for a while then burned up . it had burn marks on the wrong side of the belt, oops check the grooves on the belt . a new drum seal, rear support bearing and belt about $ 75.00 still not the cost of a repair man to tell me it was broke...loads of luck......

My washing machine has started making a terrible noise.

If your washing machine has started making a terrible noise, there could be several reasons for this. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to identify and resolve the issue:
  1. Check for objects in the drum: Sometimes, objects such as coins, buttons, or zippers can get caught in the drum and cause a noise. Turn off the machine and check the drum for any foreign objects. If you find any, remove them carefully.
  2. Balance the load: If the machine is making a loud banging noise, it may be due to an unbalanced load. Open the machine and redistribute the clothes evenly.
  3. Check the drum bearings: The drum bearings are responsible for allowing the drum to rotate smoothly. If they are worn or damaged, they can cause a loud grinding or scraping noise. To check the bearings, rotate the drum by hand. If it feels stiff or makes a grinding noise, the bearings may need to be replaced.
  4. Inspect the drive belt: If the drive belt is loose or damaged, it can cause a squeaking or rattling noise. Turn off the machine and check the belt for signs of wear or damage. If the belt needs to be replaced, consult your user manual for instructions.
  5. Contact a professional: If you are unsure of what is causing the noise or if none of the above solutions work, it may be necessary to contact a professional technician. They can diagnose the issue and recommend the appropriate course of action.
Note: Before attempting any maintenance or repair work on your washing machine, be sure to unplug it from the power source and read the user manual thoroughly. Also, follow any safety precautions recommended by the manufacturer.

Why is drum rattling?

Typically there are 2 reasons for this. Either, you have something trapped in the drum (Underwire Bra wires are the favorite for getting through the holes on the drum, getting caught near the bottom of the drum and making a horrible rattling scrape), OR your bearings are failing. If it's bearings then typically the noise will be far far louder on spin than on wash and you may have found bits of plastic and grey or greasy residue in your washing. This detritus will be from the grease in the bearings and small scrapings of the outer plastic drum, created as the inner drum, spinning erratically, catches it some of the time. If it's the latter, then sadly it's typically an uneconomical repair. Bearing replacements usually cost around £140, at which point you end up with an old machine, with one good part in it, which is questionable economics! If it is a "sealed drum" (that is to say, the drum cant be dismantled and the 2 halves of the outer drum are chemically bonded together during manufacture), then you are looking at the cost of replacing the entire drum, which usually works out at between 60%-75% of the cos of the machine when you bought it new.

DLE2050 making strange spinning noise

I guess I wasnt clear enough. The dryer works ok, except for the rattling sound now. It will start when i push the start button, it heats, and dries the clothes. Just noisy where before the flow sensor went off, it was pretty quiet.

Indesitw123 front load washing machine making very loud noise when spinning

The noise you can hear is the drum bearings, the seal between the drum and bearings has failed and let water into the bearings which has destroyed the bearings.

When on spin, the drum is rattling and making a lot of noise

More than likely the main drum bearings have failed.
From the front of the washer, spin the drum by hand, and if it feels rough, or is rumbling or grating, then the bearings have failed.

My Aquarius WF541 drum won't turn when I switch it on, although the motor seems to be?? I've cleaned the filter, and got 2 coins and what looked like metal filings, but they may have been plastice, seems...

Try turning the drum by hand from the front of the washer, if it feels rough o ris grinding or rumbling, then the main drum bearings have probably failed, also try lifting the drum up and down from the front, see if there is any movement of drum, if there is, then again it is a main bearing problem.
If all o/k, then remove the lower rear cover, and check the belt is o/k.
