80% chance of clogged water filter, or its not installed. Usually GE water system will not work without filter installed. Very often seen it clogged, sometimes frozen up. I hope this was helpful for You!

Ice dispenser doesn't work

  1. Dispenser control board
If the ice dispenser is not functioning at all the most likely cause is going to be the dispenser control board. The dispenser control board governs the major portion of the systematic functions of the dispenser and is less likely to be the issue if only certain components are malfunctioning. If the dispenser control board is at fault, it will need to be replaced.
  1. Water inlet valve & low water pressure from house supply
If the ice dispenser on your refrigerator is not working properly, one of the first things to consider as an issue is the water pressure to your appliance. The ice dispenser cannot properly function with a psi less than 20. If psi is appropriate, proceed to replace the water inlet valve to correct the issue. You may also be dealing with low household water pressure. This low flow can be examined by using a water pressure test gauge. Once the household water pressure is resolved, you can double check your refrigerator connection to ensure it is now flowing properly and that the ice dispenser is functioning.
  1. Water tube in door is frozen
If the ice dispenser is not working on your refrigerator, the issue could be a frozen water supply tube located in the door. Although this may be a tricky problem to locate, the first thing to do is find a connection point in the tube. After this has been found, attempt to blow air through the tube. If the air flows freely through the tube, it is not frozen and this is not the issue. If it does not, the tube is frozen and needs to be removed to thaw out. As it thaws, attempt to ascertain why it froze and correct the positioning of the tubing to prevent the issue from occurring again in the future.
  1. Dispenser switch
If the refrigerator ice dispenser is not working properly you could be dealing with a defective dispenser switch. Activated by the dispenser actuator, the switches are responsible for numerous actions including ice cube disbursement, type of ice, and water controls. The switch can be tested using an ohm meter and should be replaced if it does not reveal continuity.
  1. Door switch
If the refrigerator ice dispenser is not working, the functionality of the door switch can be inspected. This switch is responsible for turning on the light in the freezer and simultaneously turning off the ice dispenser when the freezer door is opened. If this switch malfunctions, it will show no continuity on the ohm meter and will require replacement.

If after checking you determine that the filter is clogged, simply replace the filter. Filters should be replaced every six months to ensure clean drinking water. 6. Our whirlpool washer uses hot water when set on cold? Any suggestions as to why this occurs.

Hello George Stewart,

The most OBVIOUS guess would be the cold water FEED is connected to the WRONG (hot water) side...

Try reversing those hoses from the wall.

Hope this helps...

Deep analysis will require a make & model number.

Water wil not despense

Could be a few things. Either the water filter is not in correctly. The water line could be frozen in the door or in the cold water reservoir that is in the refrigerator section behind the bottom drawers. You can tell if it is frozen in the door if it is a SxS by unhooking the water line before it goes into the bottom of the freezer door. Just unhook it at the pressure fitting and then try to get water. If it is frozen in the door then water will come out of the unhooked line when you try to get water. Also could be a bad water valve.

Water just keeps pouring out of the top of the ice despenser

I would say your water valve in the freezer is locked in the open postion or has broken.

No Ice is being made. Water is being despensed at the door but it seems that no water is going to the ice maker. Have good water flow to the pump.

Is the ice maker turned on?  The on/off switch is located on the top right side of the freezer compartment.  The manual says that there is a sensor beam that passes from one freezer wall to the other to shut off ice making when the bin is full.  Check to make sure nothing Is blocking that signal beam and that the bin is correctly installed.

My whirlpool side by side

If you can see the water running through the line when pressing the button in the door it must be going out somewhere inside or under the unit. If this is correct your plastic water line needs repaired.
let me know what you find.

Where is the drain?

Hi, Well could you tell me if your f/freezer is frost free? Or is it a wet wall type fridge? I.E. water running down the back of the fridge? This would help me in telling you what is wrong. As for the water despenser you will probably find that there is a small bit of scale in the water valve which lets the water in or that there is a scale build up in the water despenser in the door. This does happen even tho you have a water softner. You will need to check both as to ascertain which it is.

General electric refridgerator won't despense water in the door

Have the same thing happen a few times. The posted solution is correct, but in the mean time you can thaw the line by heating with a blow dryer inside and outside the door, and around the ice dispenser. This should take about 15 mins.
