Samsung scx 4100 just decided to quit.
makes a long-winded groaning noise which lasts for a minute or so, then the
message is "print pending paper jam 0
open close door."
I have opened all doors, but no paper appears to be stuck inside unless it is deep inside the machine where I^ cannot see.
I eventually discovered the problem. One that I would not have expected. Mechanical - yes! The problem was not with the printer directly, but with the toner cartridge. The gear on the cartridge had jammed. The simple solution was to switch the cartridge. I post this for anyone else having a similar problemI eventually discovered the problem. try to hand feed in a sheet thru the bypass (little opening on the front of the machine) and if it feeds this way then the feed tires are shot and need to be replaced
Did you install the correct driver including the scan driver? The drivers are available at the Samsung Site: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SCX-4100 . Click on the Driver tab for most or the Software Tab for the SmarThru4 program. Make sure to get the correct version for the OS on the office computer. Generic OS drivers often only run the printe, not the scanner. Uninstall the generic driver before attempting to nstall the Samsung driver.
Next check the data cable. Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer and can fail when the printer works.

Being laser-based, the SCX-4100 is a more economical choice over bubble jet printer whose cartridges are expensive in comparison to their durability. But be mindful that the SCX-4100 is a black-and-white device – so no color printing/copying for you, although it obviously scans color documents. The toner cartridge is good for about 3,000 copies, a figure that can increase 40% with toner management software (included). The device has a main paper tray that holds 250 sheets up to legal size. You can manually feed a sheet at time into a slot right above the front paper tray, and there’s also a rear slot for jam-prone material, like envelopes and transparencies. Have you tried to delete the print job from the computer? After that is done reset the printer by turning it off (30 sec) then on again. If that doesn't work take the paper out and start cleaning your printer with canned air, Q-tips and a cap full of water.
Tracoi, first you need to clear pending prints. If your using WinXP, click the start button slide up to & left click on Printer and Faxes. Click on your printer & clear/end prints pending. Power off your printer & look in the printer where the paper path is. As the paper passes through the printer, it pushes against little black sticks that wobble back and forth to trip the different sensors. These little 'flags' usually kind of stick up in the middle of the plastic along the paper path. Look over the whole paper path and find all the little flags and make sure they're all moving freely. Sometime they get knocked out of place. You only need one to mess up the printer function.

excellent idea! we have a samsung scx 4100, when scanning produces light print on one side of the page (left side). How does the scanner removed. to get to the scanner.
Your unit has a bad paper sensor. It can give you one of two incorrect messages: (1) no paper when it actually has or (2) no paper on the unit but no error message. Genuine Service Centers can show you actual schematics and Samsung's Service Page on the Internet. Or better yet, visit www.samsung.com and find an authorized center through the SUPPORT link.
