I receive the above message although the paper cassette is full. I have tried the suggestions made by others at FixYa, but the SCX-4100 will not print although it prints if manually fed. I believe the papaer sensor micro switch if not functioning. The paper feeler has not life in it and it moves freel<. How does one open such a printer to try to shortcut the micro switch? Thanks for your replies. ..john

This error code indicates a problem related to paper cassette lift mechanism. First thing that you will need to check is, if the printer makes some strange noises at initialization, when the printer is trying to lift the paper inside cassette. You can verify if the lift mechanism on the printer is ok, by removing paper cassette and press the 3 small white switches on the left of printer. At this moment the printer is trying to lift the cassette and you will see a gear that rotates on the right side of printer. Also verify if the GEAR LIFT Z64 is intact by opening the gearbox(the big one from the gears from the right side of paper cassette). This gear is cracked in most cases. Replace it.
pull cassette out and look inside the cassette bay on the left side. there is a white gear that lifts up your paper. that might have come unseated. make sure its seated in right by pushing it back in. last but not least, make sure you don't have your rear paper stopper in cassette pushing paper too hard against the front of cassette preventing paper from raising up.
003 - Recording paper jammed when feeding from the 3rd cassette. Remove the jammed paper.
(1) Open the Printer Cover.
(2) Remove the jammed paper.
(3) Slide out the Paper Cassette.
(4) Remove the jammed or wrinkled paper and reload the recording paper into the paper cassette.
Caution: Make sure that the paper is set under the clips of the Paper Cassette. You can load about 500 sheets with standard weight paper (20 lb. or 75 g/m2).
