I just tried a Sigma 1.4 Teleconverter on a Sigma f2.8 70-200mm lens, with my Pentax K10D camera, and there was no autofocus and the F stop display flickered non stop.
Is the converter new or used? If new then don't waste time here, just get it exchanged under warranty. If used, then remove the converter and check/clean all of the contact pins on both ends of the converter. They should be bright and shiny with no dirt or grease on them. Also check that the alignment of the pins is correct; you can use the ones on your camera body and lens to compare them with to check whether they look right or not. If this doesn't fix your problem then there is nothing else you can do as in my experience further problems are not user repairable and are rarely fixable by anyone other than the manufacturer. You'll have to decide whether to get the converter repaired by Sigma* or to throw it away and buy a replacement. *Sigma often can't fix them either, but they do have the option at their discretion to just send you a new or refurbished replacement. Sigma do have a reputation for excellent after-sales care often extending beyond the original warranty period, especially if you let them know what other Sigma products you own.Is the converter new or used? I do have the same lens in Canon version and some time ago had the same problem. The lens has suffer an impact somewhere and was slightly out of alignment. Take it to qualified technician.
I don't own a K10D, but I do own a K100D which I have successfully used both manual focus & auto-focus lenses from my old Pentax stash!
1) If it is a manual focus lens, you need to turn off Autofocus on the body of your K10D. On my K100D, there is a switch on the side of the lens mount that says [-MF or -AF]. "-MF" is manual focus mode & "-AF" is autofocus mode. Since your lens doesn't have autofocus capability, turn it to the "-MF" mode.
Also . . . When I press "Menu" and go to "Custom Setting", I change two settings . . .
1) I change "Using aperture ring" to "Permitted". This allows you to use manual lenses (M lenses) that do not have an auto(exposure) setting, and also lets you use Auto lenses (A, KA, KA2, FA, etc.) in either the Auto or manual aperture setting modes.
2) I change "Fl with S lens used" so that even with a manual focus lens, although I don't have autofocus capability, my K100D beeps and shows a little red square in the viewfinder when I have successfully focused manually!
The K10D should have the same options.
This should get you up and running!
I have had a load of fun with my old lens on my new digital Pentax!
Make sure that the apature ring is set to 'A' or automatic,
if these are manual focus lenses then switch the focus switch on the left side of the camera body to MF
If this still doesn't work, or you are having trouble with the apature ring then press the menu button to go to the menu then press the right arrow key untill you are in the Custom Settings, scroll through the custom settings with the up and down arrow keys until about the 2nd from bottom there is an option called "using aperture ring" set this to 2 (Permitted) This will make the camera take a image when lens is on any f-stop manually.
Try this and everything should work fine.If all this hasn't worked then try seting the mode dial on the camera to M manual mode.Cheers
