Microwave Quit Heating

My Emerson microwave worked fine for about 6 months and just stopped heating. Everything else seemed to be working normal. I contacted Emerson and was told to send back the manual, the electrical cord and the rotating plate inside. Cost me about $12.00 via UPS. Today I received a new replacement but I am going to donate it to charity since I have already bought a replacement.

The problem was resolved when Emerson sent me a new replacement microwave. When I called them seeking a repair location I was told they had no repair facilities in my area, which is a suburb of Atlanta. The microwave had a 1 yr warranty and I given instructions to get a replacement.

The Magnotron goes out on many of the lower priced models in the first yr.,(and some of the higher end ones too!) As the components there do most of the hard work. Better to just find a recycler who takes them and scrap it.
As for the replacement that sounds like an excellent idea!

SOURCE: cookworks microwave not heating up

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, I would suggest calling the dealer where you bought it to see if they have a number for Cookworks.

SOURCE: Emerson Microwave stopped working

Have 1 of 2 choices, the main fuse or the control board for the front switches and clock. primary of the small power transformer has opened. Unplug the unit and take case off and measure the fuse with an ohm meter. if u read 1 ohm or less then fuse is good. then measure across the main power plug tips. If read open then the power transformer is bad. Need to replace the board as not sure if transformer is available.

SOURCE: I have a emerson microwave that has stopping

Emerson may be able to tell you which part has failed but you may have to have the unit looked at be a small appliance repair person. Send Emerson an email to [email protected] with your model number and the problem you're having. If the unit is out of warranty, it may be cheaper to replace the microwave depending on what you paid for it. Keep in mind that the labor on any repair will be a minimum of $50 if you have to take it someone's shop, and that doesn't include the price of the part. Any part needed would be purchased from Fox International who's the part distributor for Emerson. They wouldn't know which part you need, however, because they're just a large parts store. Below is the link for Emerson's website.

Are you getting 110VAC on the primary leads of the high voltage transformer when you press "Start" to begin cooking?

If not, yhen it may simply be a bad cook relay (I do board repair) or a bad bottom or inside top door switch. See http://www.microwavecontrol.com/doorsw.htm

MICROWAVE NOT HEATING

Most likely you have a magnetron problem. Easy to replace (DYI) but make sure the high voltage capacitor is fully discharged first against the case.

The microwave stopped heating. Everything else is working fine.

Ok, concerning the heating issue. you will need to replace the Magnetron to restore the heating feature in this unit. this device is damaged.

Concerning the motor(circulation). If the motor is not working, this will damaged the Magnetron, due to poor circulation. i recommend replacing the motor asap.

In conclusion, you will need to replace the Magnetron and the circulation motor as well. replacing these two vital devices will fix your issues. the total cost for these parts are estimated at $87.90

Have GE JVM2050 over the range microwave, which stopped heating food and water since this morning. All other functions including light, key pad, clock, turntable work normal. The magnetron sound also

if everything works except the heating, it is most likely the mag tube is on its way out.........that is the most common reason for it not too cook.......since the microwave is a GE and it is 3.5 years old, i would say you are better off buying a new microwave, the mag tube starts at around $70.00 and up + the labor it costs too have a service person put it in........around another $60.00

No heat but everything else works

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

Microwave appears to work fine but will not heat at all.

Sounds like the thermal protector on the mag tube quit. It may have gotten too hot and opened up. That is the lesser of all the evils that can happen to a Microwave.
