Question about Emerson MW8102SS 1100 Watts Microwave Oven
I have a microwave Emerson Model MW8117W.
It's only 2 years old.
It turns on and when you press cook it counts down, but doesn't heat up, plate doesn't turn, and nothing gets cooked.
Ok just figured this out! It is a problem with the alignment on the lower door switch. I took the cabinet off and lifted up on the door switch slightly and voila! It works. You could probably fix this without taking it apart, just lift up on the door ever so slightly. I hope this works for you.

Thanks for the great tip! Ours started acting up today and was sporadic—sometimes it worked and sometimes nothing but the light and countdown worked. Turns out it was due to door sag—pushing up when you closed it made it work consistently—what a relief with Thanksgiving right around the corner!

For others with similar situation- I ran into this and fixed this with replacing 1 of the 2 door switches. I found someone who had the same unit and problem and he explained the whole resolution.
I ordered 2 of these switches incase the other went at some point. Had to widen the connectors to fit the replacement part, but it works fine. It is simply a failure on a moving part that gets used everytime the door opens and closes. So when it fails the switch does not close the circuit and the microwave senses the door is not shut and will not work properly.

I was having the same problem and it turned out the door was just misaligned. I pulled up on the door until there was a click and then it worked fine.
