Emerson Microwave MW8115SS

I have only had this microwave about 9-10 months. All of a sudden when I tried to heat up something--I press the cook time and enter it, then hit start. The light comes on inside the oven and the clock counts down the time - but the oven is not working. The turn table is not turning, and the fan/motor is not working. Nothing has happen to this oven. I only use it about once a day--nothing metal, or incorrect is ever been used in this oven. What happened? Help!

we have had this microwave 15 months. it no longer comes on and the turn table does not turn. any ideas for a fix?

  • Anonymous Apr 06, 2008

Same problem - timers goes, but oven doesn't turn on, but only sometimes. If you keep opening and shutting door, pulling plug, etc. you can get it to go.

My Emerson Model MW 8115SS, shut off and refuse to restart, unit doesn't light up, there isn't nothing working.

  • Anonymous Jun 03, 2008

OMG this is exactly what just happened to ours!!! If anyone has a solution we would be grateful because we don't want to have to buy a new one yet!

  • Anonymous Jul 13, 2008

Yeah, same thing here, only I've had it for almost 3 years now. Bought it at Wal-Mart. Great oven until now. Any suggestions?

  • Anonymous Jul 21, 2008

my 811 5 does not light up at all, like not plugged in. Door switch???

  • Anonymous Aug 26, 2008

same problem....light comes on and counter starts.....I think a relay is bad but I'm afraid to bypass any of them

  • Anonymous Sep 16, 2008

I have the same make and model microwave. I had it since 2003, haven't used it for 4 years and then started using it again. So far, I have used it for 3 months and it stopped working--won't even turn on. It's dead.

I spoke with a Home Depot rep who said that if I try to repair it myself, I may shock myself. But I can't seem to remove the back on the microwave to see the fuse. Is it worth fixing myself or buying a new one?

Does anyone have a fuse replacement manual?

  • mariah66 Nov 20, 2008

this just happened to us. this is actually our 2nd one, this current one being purchased about 7 months ago. the 1st one just went dead, nothing lit up at all. now, this time, it counts down and the lights come on, but no heating. never realized how much i use it until it's stops working!

  • Anonymous Nov 27, 2008

It basicly turned into a timer how do we fix it

  • 4kidsmom Dec 01, 2008

I'm sure it's just a blown fuse but how do we locate it, remove and replace it?

  • johnny555ros Jan 05, 2009

have had this make about a year, no problems at all until today- like the others, turn on timer, light comes on, timer begins counting down, but the motor is off, and table is'nt turning- looked to see if there is a recall- we did'nt keep any paperwork-won't by another emerson- oh well!

  • reginawoolbr Feb 15, 2009

I have had this less than 2 years bought at Walmart and nothing comes on? Any suggestions, don't want to have to buy a new one if possible a fuse.

I bought my emerson microwave 3 years ago model# mw8115ss from walmart and have had all the problems that everyone has talked about and I thought about throwing it away until I thought about one small detail, the FUSE. China uses junky glass fuses that burst instantly with a slight power outage, door slamming to hard, moving it around, and of course constant use like myself always heating up water for bottles. I took the back of the microwave off and walla!!! a blown fuse, but wait!!! dont buy another glass fuse!!! go to your local home depot and get the ceramic fuse for microwave ovens!!! they are $2.83 at my local home depot. I replaced the junky glass fuse with the ceramic one and it has worked perfectly for six months now.

DONT let someone tell you that you cant replace a glass fuse with a ceramic one because they are full of boloney. My microwave did all kinds of things, it wouldnt turn sometimes, it would come on by itself, it would beep for no reason, turn but not heat up, you name it I had the problem. When a fuse starts to go out it can make your appliances do some strange things, check the fuse and replace it with a CERAMIC one and I promise it should eliminate your problem.

First of all, since it's under warranty, I would call Emerson or a local servicer who repairs Emerson microwaves under warranty. You probably have a defective door switch or broken door switch mount.

It's the top door switch. mine did the same thing. was able to rebuild the switch temporarily, but eventually had to replace it completely because it was constantly blowing fuses afterward.

Same here: mom got it at walmart for $68. Press harder on top switch it works. Did that many times, replaced and tested switches, the fuse will burst if you open door with power on. Eventually however, wouldn't start at all. I believe some other electrical problem wrecked the switch contacts, and now something I can't find, not an electrician.

I have had this same microwave for so long I don't remember. But it has been every bit of 5 years. There is four people in my household so this thing pretty much runs 16 hours a day. I've never even had a slight problem with the exception of a rusting type problem on the inside. Anyways after reading all these negative reviews I had to give a shout out to my microwave because my Emerson is a gangster

Mine just went out today. It's the same model and it has the same problem as stated (which is why I am here today). " The light comes on inside the oven and the clock counts down the time - but the oven is not working. The turn table is not turning, and the fan/motor is not working." I've had it forever, lots of kids using it all the time, every day. I don't even remember what year it was, but the back says 2005. It has worked great up until today. If, after all that time, a blown fuse is all that has happened, it is a GREAT product.

I got mine as a gift for Christmas in 2010. Used the popcorn option and it burned my popcorn. Underneath the glass plate the paint or whatever totally melted away. Looks like **** inside. About six months after having the darn thing it starts sparking like the fourth of July, makes freaky noises, and then this crazy smell comes out. It doesn't happen every time I use it, but I'd say at least 5 times a week. It's the WORST microwave I have ever had. I will be going with the Magic Chef. My last Magic Chef microwave lasted YEARS. I'm gonna toss this piece of **** before it gives me some serious cancer or something from the radiation.

Top door switch was sticky.. 1 small squirt of wd40. I worked the switch several times and it worked perfectly.
That took 10 minutes and saved 70 bucks. My wife was already online shopping for a new one. Bummer for her.

My m-i-l gave me hers to fix. Said turntable wasn't working and making noise. Pulled motor (nicely engineered stamping for motor extraction) and motor is basically locked up. Searching for replacement now.

Emerson Microwave MW8115SS --

I would suggest you check the door switches inside the microwave oven just below the keypad, rectangular in shape. The switches are normally open or closed, set meter to ohms, unhook lead from one side and test with door open and closed. If readings are the same both ways the switch is defective. "check all switches"

Emerson microwave oven model number MW8115SS

You don't state how old your oven is, or if you tried other food items afterwords. I also assume you inspected for foreign metal objects in the oven? If it does this whenever you attempt to cook in it, then it sounds as if your oven may have a wave guide cover malfunction or burned area. This part can be replaced by the consumer in most cases, but only after consulting with a trained technician or your parts supplier.

Emerson microwave oven model mw8115ss

There is not much you can do about this. There may be a reset button on the control panel, try it. You can try slamming the door a couple of times & looking on the back for any fuses. If this fails, scrap the oven & get a new one, as they are generally not worth repairing.
