There's too man different variables and things that could be causing your problem to diagnose it and simply say "You need to replace x part of the machine"

You would need to disassemble the machine and physically test multiple things to find the problem and THEN replace the part.

Nobody online can do this diagnosis for you.

Use the troubleshoot menu.
Hold the Power on button while it is in standby.
You will hear 1 beep.
After 5-10 second you will hear a second beep.
1-3 seconds after this you will hear 2 more beeps.

You will then be asked to connect your controller via usb and press the ps button.

This will give you the troubleshoot menu. One or more options in these screens may solve your problem.

I suggest sending it to sony support and have them repair/replace it for you, however this will cost £80 if you are no longer within their 1 year warranty.
Any hardware sold by stores in the UK is covered by a 3 year warranty as part of your statutory rights. If you take it back to the store they will try to say it's not their problem anymore.

Point out your statutory right, and threaten to go to trading standards. This is usually enough to get a replacement there and then.

I've tried this and it doesnt' work. I've tried everything I've seen on the internet to try and fix it and it still doesn't work. I don't get the 3 beeps everyone is talking about. Every time I try it, it just keeps turning off. I try it again and it still just turns off. It won't reset. When I turn it on, I can see the screen flash like I turned it on but nothing appears on the screen. Please help, it's very frustrating.

Here is a brief guide to troubleshooting a PS3 with no picture and sound:

  1. Ensure the HDMI cable is properly plugged in and your TV is on the correct setting.
  2. Try using a different HDMI cable in case your one is faulty.
  3. Place your PS3 console in stand-by mode, then hold your finger on the touch power button until you hear 2 very short beeps- release your finger and then plug in a USB controller as prompted.
  4. Select option 3 - Restore File System- this should restore corrupted video driver files by using the flash memory on the PS3 motherboard WITHOUT deleting saved games etc.
  5. Check out the following article on PS3 troubleshooting no video errors to find out more about how to get rid of the black screen.
There is a pretty high chance that the problem is actually due to a corrupted driver or software file, rather than a hardware error.

To clarify, your TV is working correctly, since you get sound and video from all devices - Only your PS3 has no sound or video?

If your PS3 was previously used with regular AV cables (Red/White/Yellow) then you most likely need to do a PS3 video reset t output video over HDMI.

With the PS3 OFF, press and continue holding the power button until it turns on, beeps twice, and then turns back off. Do not release the power button during this process.

You may have to try the video reset a few times if it doesn't work right away.

After video reset, you should get sound and video over HDMI.

The GPU overheated. Most likely fried, but you can try to let it sit for a few hours and see if it will boot again.
On an outside chance, you may try resetting the video options when you boot up the system. To do this, press the power button until it beeps once a second time. This will reset the video options and restore functionality if the problem is software related.

Have no picture or sound on ps3

First thing to try is a manual video reset.

While the PS3 is off:

Hold down the power button until you hear the second beep, quickly release the button.

This will reset the video.

If that doesn't work, remove the hard drive from the system and try again.

Let me know what happens.

My ps3 wont read any discs

Sounds like a faulty/dirty/bad laser. Call sony 1-800-345-SONY (7669)
ask them what they can do! Normally its at least 168$ charge to get your ps3 back in order unless you are willing to open it up yourself.. if so let me know I can help you find parts and help you fix it.. parts are not to expensive but in the long run it may be better to either sell it as broke or send it in!

I do buy broken ps3's and can get you a deal on used or new systems!
