Check fuses on panel, then check all connectors, check for kinked or frayed wire, then lastly, the circuit board for your panel! Not an easy task as you are checking for continuity between connections. If its the circuit board on your arm rest I would suggest a junk yard for a known good operating board. sounds like distortion is being caused by trying to amplify a low volume level from the input device. try putting the ipod volume at a medium level and try again to see if the distortion goes away/reduced
Possibly a break in one of the speaker wires just grounding out on the frame somewhere...long process but you may have to trace wires back..or just run new ones from unit to speakers
have you tried cleaning the cd lens ?insert a lens cleaning cd , follow the voice instructions and your cd player will be as good as new.HAPPY LISTENING.
