I keep hearing a whirring noise coming from tray 4 when printing.

Hi,
As you mentioned that the printer makes loud grinding noise or squeaking when page comes out than i feel this is the noise coming out due to faulty fuser.
I want to be sure so please open the rear bin and try to print if still noise comes than i m sure it is fuser.
If there are smudges on the printed page or if some film coating is coming out with printed page than fuser roller are physically damage.
However in this case i assume fuser is faulty.
If there opening the rear bin noise goes off than top output rollers are faulty.
Thanks and Regards

The printer probably has one of two problems; either your toner cartridge needs to be cleaned according to the printer's cleaning program, or it is nearly out of toner. A third issue may be that the cartridge needs to have its alignment adjusted. If so, you will see fuzzy, out of focus lines. If you will try to print a piece of graph paper, (available on most spreadsheet programs,) you will be able to tell if there are a.) fuzzy lines or crooked lines, meaning your printer needs to be aligned; b.) incomplete lines or faint lines, meaning your cartridge is nearly out of toner, or; c.) smudged or incorrectly colored lines; meaning your cartridge needs to go through a cleaning cycle.

You need to check the paper types you have assigned and the paper types that users are requesting. Print out a configuration page and make sure that Tray 4 shows as plain paper. If it does not then check all the stops. The 2000 sheet tray 4 units are noted for having the stops not engage and this causes the printer to think that tray 4 is custom media. You can also go into diagnostics and print a paper path test for each tray to ensure that all the trays are working.

Maintenance Kit will not solve the grinding noise. You have what is called a Swing Plate Issue. The plate is located easily on the left side of the machine after you remove the fuser. Those gears become warn and make that sound. Sometimes you can get by removing just the gear that you can see (black plastic gear) and replacing it with a new one.
