Lens will not retract

J12 Fuji Finepix Camera purchased Xmas 08, dropped mid-late Feb 09. Camera body is slightly indented approx 1/2" from edge directly under the lens. The lens will no longer retract therefore the camera will not operate.

Do you think that replacing the camera body would fix my problem?

Estimates have run in the $90+ range for a camera I purchased for slightly over 100 including tax.

Thanks!
Ruby

As bad as I hated to, I purchased a new camera for $109.00 vs. $90.00 for the repair. I still intend to look around for a similar camera, maybe on eBay or at a yard sale for parts. I think that I would like to give the repair a whorl. I can't tear it up any worse ... it does not work now!

Thank you for allowing me to post ...

My lens is stuck and my camera won't turn on. I must have dropped it without realising, What can I do?!

If the lens is stuck out then you will find it is usually one of a few reasons.

1. Check the batteries. (obvious I know).
2. The camera has been dropped or knocked.
3. The camera has grit or dirt in the lens mechanism.

Providing the batteries are ok then 2 and 3 usually mean a professional repair. The lenses tend not to be something that the average home user can remove and take apart. The cost of repair also might be more than the camera value so you will need to find a good repair shop near you and get a quote.

Zoom lens won't retract on fujifilm f410

Hi,

This indicate that there will be some problem with your camera Lens. Try to follow these steps to resolve the issue:-

1) Switch the camera OFF and then ON again. (May be your camera lens is struggling to extend)
2) Load new or fully charged batteries.

Else your device need service (repair)

Rating the solution is highly appreciated....Good Luck

I dropped my camera and the zoom lense is crooked. It won't let me take any pictures and it says "zoom error". Do I need a new camera or can I fix it? If I can, how? p.s.: I managed to get the lense...

Chances are that you did more harm than good when you straightened the lens. Unfortunately, there is no DIY fix for the lens problem, so you are forced to decide between professional repair (possibly too costly to justify) or a new camera. Sorry that I couldn't pass on any good news.

The lens will not retract when the camera is turned off. the screen says focus error when the camera is turned on. is there a way to fix this problem?

I was able to lightly tap the lens in with the tip of my finger while turning the camera off. Then I applied a little pressure on the lens while turning it back on. I guess I was thinking that I would make the lens work a little harder to come out and tighten whatever may have slipped or something. Anyway, after dropping it on carpet and tapping the lens, then the pressure.... It works. Hope this helps..

'FOCUS ERROR'

If bought this at best buy and are still under your MFG warranty they can send it out to repair, or if you have their service plan, nothing you can do, this needs to be sent to a repair facility...

Zoom error

worked on allot of fuji's. first detease, a gear is slipping in the lens retract assembly due to a crack or wear or jam

2nd guest .. zoom errors means its really stuck tight

the gears can be ordered and replaced and one more possibility is that the motor that drives the gear is bad
Also if dropped or zoom lens jammed hard... lens assembly needs total realignment or replacing..

Lens does not retract

It could be that your batteries are low. Try replacing the batteries.

FUJI FINEPIX S7000

Try it with a different set of battery. It is possible that one of your battery is "dead" or close to it, and the camera shuts down.

You have to find the bad battery.

It worked for me.

Zoom lens won't retract

Usually down to the lens block assy being faulty. Is the lens retracting and opening properly?.It usually turns out to be worn gears in the lens drive assy or the result of a fall.Either way will be expensive repair! My advise is check and see whether camera is covered by insurance for accidental knocks.,
