I cant seem to get past that auto repair screen on my Acer. Worst yet, I cant go into bios to change the boot settings to boot into an external media so I can repair it. It's just stuck at this silly auto repair loop. Whatever key combination I use it just doesnt want to either start the bios settings or the safe mode screeb. Whenever I do a hard reset(hold the power button until it stops and then start it again) it never shows me any boot screen it just goes into that loop immediately. I can fix the problem as long as I boot into BIOS but as I said it immediately goes into that loop after a hard reset. Any ideas on how to get to the boot menu ?
It could be a problem with hard drive, try replacing it with a spare hd , if its still the same then maybe you could take out internal battery and put it back in ,even take out mem and put back in at same time of taking out internal battery ,it could help resolving the problems.
Those are great possible solutions, I was thinking of removing the battery, even resetting the CMOS. Problem is the laptop is under warranty and if I open it the warranty is voided. I was thinking of something not on the hardware side, but rather a possibility of doing a hard reset so I can boot from an external storage and fix the issue with an external tools. Anyway, thanks for the ideas

I quote this from maddmike71 "ahhh, the infamous blue screen of death. not much you can really do but reinstall windows. if you have data you need you can remove the hard dive and attach it to another computer to copy the files if not take it to a pc shop so they can backup all of your data for you."

Do you want to try and see if a 'Linux LiveCD' boots? This is the way I test if the computer works. You burn this CD to a disk, and then boot off of it when you're computer starts. I will not modify anything on your computer as long as you go to 'Try Ubuntu with out installing'

Don't worry, I'm not trying to get you to install anything, just see if it boots into the 'live environment' (means you are running it off of the cd) If this works, that means that it is only your windows installation is messed up, and a reinstallation of windows should work fine with a Windows install CD NOT the recovery cd.

off course it is repairable dont worry look try to install OS thru the following procedure to factory default state
Acer: When you first turn on the laptop and see the Acer logo screen, hold the ALT key and press the F10 key (you need to do this before the Acer logo disappears).
if it installs the OS ok then fine if not
pls consider changing RAM take out from beneath the laptop open the cover all screws and take out the L shaped panel then u will see the RAM in front with 2 chips one uper and one lower side try to take out both and then re fit only one in the upper slot and then try to install if hangs again , then try the 2nd chip in the first slot and repeat the procedure if it works ok only try both chips one by one if it resolves ur issue and u find the faulty one replace it with new one with sam specs
in the last case if ur system still hangs then my friend ur hard disk is giving u hard time it needs replacement
when a system boots after bios loading all that is trf from Hdisk to RAM and then OS is loaded if one have problem system will hang or freeze try these solutions and then tell me the results
pls go step by step
and pls rate me fixya if i fixed ur problem
kindly let me know abt it and tell me in detail the messages u get and the system behaviour

When you power up the laptop press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios setup.
Then check your harddisk is detect or not?
Then also make sure SATA option is disabled in bios.
Then go to boot option and set first boot device as your harddrive. Then save settings and exit.
But if you even not able to enter in bios then you have reset bios settings and Refix RAM memory .
For that open back cover fo laptop and find cmos cell on motherbord pull it for 10 minutes so all settings of bios goes to factory defaults.
Let me know if you need more assistanse.
Thanks.
1. Is the boot sequence in BIOS set to boot from CD or DVD, if not I would suggest you to go to BIOS and change the boot sequence to boot from CD and try to boot from the CD
2. Is the computer custom built or OEM built?
3. What is the model number and who is the manufacturer of the computer?
4. Have you made any changes to the computer by installing any new software or hardware?
5. Since when are you unable to boot the computer normally?
6. You need to get Windows Vista DVD to perform further troubleshooting either to scan the computer or to perform repair install, I would suggest you to contact the computer manufacturer to obtain vista DVD.
Thanks
