NO scan options

Did you get this message on the all-in-one? Do you have the full-featured software installed on the computer? If not, download and install the software. Is the monitor program (HP Digital Imaging Monitor) running? Check the taskbar. If it isn't running, check if it is installed and starts on boot. Click Start > Run (if XP) and type msconfig and click OK. (type run in the search box instead and then click Run when you see it and then msconfig). In the msconfig window, click the Startup tab and look for the program. If it isn't listed, reinstall the full software completely. If it is listed, make sure the box next to it is checked and click Apply and then Close. Restart the computer and retry.

Have you set the destinations for the scan to buttons in the HP Director or HP Solution Center? Go into the software and set these.

Try to start the scan from the computer. Try a new data cable if you have additional problems with scanning. Use a direct connection if you have a USB hub or print server.

Uninstall the software which you have already installed. from control panel - Programs and features

After you download the software and start the installation - Connect the printer only when it is prompted to.

Windows Vista is a sh.t OS that many IT pros laugh at.  Windows 7 looks more promising, but don't upgrade the software on your computer cause there are other issues that arise whenever you install one OS over another.  Wait until you need a new computer and buy it with windows 7 already pre-loaded.  This will save you much headache and time. Vista was truly a bastard child for Bill Gates.

I had the same problem and after spending more than 40 hours on the phone with tech support, it was determined that Adobe Photoshop is not compatible with hp solution center. You can open paint and scan with it.

Go to the HP website and search for the driver, re-install it, its HP Director software and you can then scan with it. I have the same printer and had to do the same thing. the download took about half an hour on a broadband connection. You will then need to scan to a file, the images of the scan come up in the software and you manage them from there. i will tell you that the software is not user friendly. good luck.

You need to start the HP software that's installed on your PC.

In Win XP, go to Start menu, look down the list of installed programs, and click on HP Director to start it up. Your scanner should work now, either from the scan buttons on the printer, or from the scan options within HP Director.
