Bought a second hand AEG Arctis tall freezer about 6 months ago and it seemed fine initially but it now keeps losing temperature - the warning light flashes and it beeps. I pull the plug out, put it back in and put it on fast freeze until the temp goes back down. It usually works ok (but not always) for a few hours, then the same thing happens. This is happening about 3 times a day. It seems like the compressor isn't kicking in unless you unplug and re-plug it. I completely defrosted it 2 days ago, and made sure that it's not too full, so that isn't the problem. Please can you advise?
Hi Julie. I'm Roger. It sounds like the operating thermostat is not working When not in the fast freeze mode. Can you here a click sound from the thermostat when turning the temperature up and down short of fast freeze? We normally charge them to operate at -10 to -20 degrees. The inside temperature will normally only reach a temperature around 18 degrees warmer. The operating thermostat should allow you to regulate its temperature any where from that capability up to where you want it. See if your thermostat makes a clicking sound when adjusted. The warning light comes on because it knows the box temperature is higher than it is set for and is warning you of that. If it uses a printed circuit (PC) board, the click will dot be very loud. listen closely. Let us know how this turns out for you. We have very good refrigeration techs. here. Someone else here may have an idea too.
Hi Roger, thanks for the response. To adjust the temperature, you just press a plus or minus button and the temp can be between -15 to -24 degrees. We've adjusted the temp up and down, using the control buttons and did not hear any click. When the warning comes on because the temp has dropped, we've been pressing the fast freeze button to drop the temp again. The fast freeze is not always coming on at the first attempt and sometimes have unplugged the power a couple of times before it has clicked on. Any thoughts?
If it won't hold temperature automatically without using fast freeze to drop it, I think you may need a new temp. control board. Cutting the power to sometimes get it to work is a common form of resetting a control that has tripped because of a high or low limit considered dangerous by the controller. I think calling a technician at this point would be best to test that board. I'm sorry. Good luck and thank for using this site. Roger

SOURCE: My AEG Arctis freezer is not freezing at the
The freezer is probably in need of defrosting. This usually occurs when the freezer has been over packed. It needs to be able to ahve air flow through it, there are holes in the back of the freezer and a defrosting element at the top and they need to be clear in order to keep it frost free. It happend to me and we called an engineer out. solved it by using hair dryer to defrost it.

the temperature control is bad. when you push the fast freeze it bypasses the thermostat for 12-24 hours depending on which model you have. I am not able to find any parts information with the model number provided but you should be able to find a temperature control at any local appliance parts house or online thru any reputable supplier. It is probably the control board and since it's new it's still under warranty so a certified Frigidaire repair man will fix it without charge. There should be a telephone number with the paperwork you received when you bought it.
