I broke the glass cover. How do I remove the chassis to replace it. will plate glass of the same thickness work? any parts suppliers? it;'s connected with tabs not screws..how do we get the chassois off?

the frame that holds the glass is referred to as a bezel; carry it to a glass supply and have them fit a glass to it or go to the manufacturers website for a replacement

I also dont see that part munber listed and the problem trying to find the glass for another brand is if the company uses a different thickness glass or the dimantions (sorry bad speller at times) are not exactly the same it wont work it could be exacly right left to right but if its a 1/4 ince to wide or what not it will not fit and keep the heat from escaping.
If you have a glass supplier in your area maybe they can cut you one
it has to be heat tempered with exactly the right bevels on the edges and the exact height&width That can be expensive
So sorry to say no nothing else would work

note where the dirt is located,unplug all wires from back, remove top hinged cover, undo 2 screws at the top, remove cover plate by gently tipping toward top, slide glass with plastic sides up and out, clean with approved cleaner, reverse to reinstall glass (plug in power cord prior to replacing top cover plate to check for any missed fingerprints or dirt on underside of glass), once your happy with cleaning complete the reassembally.

first obtain a replacement .the cover with tape to prevent shattering the glass then carefully prise of the glass with a screwdriver refitting should be just a case of cleaning any glass away and removing adhesive tape and refitting the glass the heating element is part of the housing and the heat should just transfer through the glass ..not a hard job ..just tricky and time consuming ..if the housing has been damaged .then its a bit more difficult ..first obtain a replacement and then remove the door card then the fixings should be visible remove them and the mirror housing should come loose remove any wiring from the loom then fix the new unit connect any wiring then refit the fixing screws and then replace the door card ..again not the most technical but of work but time taken will show in the end result ..dont loose you temper as it is a bit fiddly ..if in doubt get halford to do it for you or any other similar garage

I cant inform about the exact size of the watch glass by the model or number of the case. For that you need to use micrometer to measure the thickness and diameter of glass. Most sommon thickness is 1mm. If the glass is broke, measure the thickness of any broken leftover and then the diameter by puting the calliper arms into watches groove for glass.

Removal & Installation

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
   
2. Remove the lower steering column cover-to-instrument panel screws and the cover.
   
3. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate-to-instrument cluster screws and the panel, then allow the panel to hang to the left side by the wiring.
   
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear of the headlight switch.
   
5. Disengage and remove the headlight switch from the instrument cluster trim plate.
   

To install:

1. Connect the electrical connector to the rear of the headlight switch.
   
2. Engage and install the headlight switch in the instrument cluster trim plate.
   
3. Install the instrument cluster trim plate-to-instrument cluster screws and the panel.
   
4. Install the lower steering column cover-to-instrument panel screws and the cover.
   
5. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery and check operation.
   

that glass( slanted one) is supported on top by the metal plate ( problably 3 inches wide) running across the top of the metal cover(covering the insulation level) the glass inserts inbetween 1 or 2 tabs in the metal support, it then lays on an angle against the metal cover( hoilding the insulation level) and is secured by the 1 in thick angled metal retainer. hope this was helpfull.
