I understand that you're receiving what you believe to be a 'false' paper jam on your HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One Printer. I would like to work with you today with resolving this issue. Paper jams can be real or false. The product might report a paper jam even when there is no jammed paper. A false paper jam may also be the result of having a bad paper jam at a point in time and that bad jam causing a hardware issue to the paper sensor or rollers. I am going to provide you with some additional troubleshooting steps that apply to both real and false paper jams. You did state that you already checked the paper pathway inside the printer and failed to find any evidence of paper being stuck, but please run the step-by-step troubleshooting below, even if you have already run some of the steps.
A switch where the paper is routed through the machine is stuck in the wrong position whether paper is jamming it or the switch just got stuck. By the way a switch could also mean a sensor being dirty and if that is the case clean it with a q-tip and alcohol.
Without any paper in the machine I would try powering off and powering on. Lifting the scanner lid will clear so the carrige goes back to the correct side of the printer. Even rebooting the printer and loading the software will sometimes cause the carriage to go back to where it was supposed to be.
HP's All-In-One printers are notorious for their paper jams, and they are usually caused by small bits of paper left in the paper path - and these can be hard to find. HP has come up with these special instructions for clearing the paper jams. Please click on the following link:
Be patient while following these instructions and it might also be helpful to have a small flashlight to help you inspect the cartridges and internal workings.
Good luck. If you found this useful, please leave feedback.
