Center adjust on Red gun is not aligning with B&G vert.

I just got my hands on the VHP D50HTU. I am following the directions for aligning the color guns horizontal is right on the money but my verticle is having problems, Even at the MAx the Red CRT is a little lower than the Blue and Green, 'the stangee thing is when I play with the centering I can move the RED down quite a bit but the colors only seem to align on either the Blue and Green or the Red and Blue but I can not seem to get all 3 in convergence. Please let me know if there is a way to physicly tilt the color gun to bring it upa hair so that they all align.

Red gun convergence problem

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. The problem I am having is that my 32' Sony Wega kv32fs12 Trinitron television will work almost perfectly. Image color is beautiful. tuners seem to be working like a charm, but the screen has a slight...

Picture alignments made in servive menu.

pwr off + display + 5 + (+vol) + pwr on
You must do all within 1 second.
1&4 move thru settings, 6&3 chg value,
muting & enter saves chgs.

Your code access could differ.

In the menu note down all existing settings.
Make small adjustments and watch what happens if not in right direction reset that particular option to original value before you changed. In those menus you can bend, shift hor. and vert., etc.
But be warned only slight adjustments and write down start values before experimenting. Or you can get in to serious trouble.

Good secret service menues keep an access counter for manufacturer/dealer to see how many times it was used.

All color guns out of alignment

Needs convergence amps replaced. Sometimes resistors burn and need to be replaced. This repair requires soldering/desoldering equip. and a trained eye, but usually can be done for 175.00-325.00 at a reputable service center. Good luck, Russmann.

Red outlines in the picture

somewhere in the tv menu there is a place to make video adjustments. one should be for aligning the color guns. one is for red and the other two are green and blue. it will give you a cross in the center of the screen. it should also give you prompts to adjust the lines for centering and to save changes. this happens eventually on all rear projection tv sets.

Your Convergence is off. Go through the menue to the CONVERGENCE and follow the on screen instructions.

Start with the RED gun and align each cross point starting with the upper left corner.

You will be pulling the red to match the green.

If the television shuts down during this process, it will reset the convergence and you can try again.

After you get the red gun perfectly aligned with the green, start with the blue.

follow the on screen directs and don't forget to store.

Use the remote for these adjustments.

I hope that this helps..

Colors splitting.

max, go into "video menu" and find "convergence set-up", follow the on screen directions. Basically you want to move the "red" onto the green and then the "blue" onto the other two and the cross will turn white, once it turns white it is re-converged and your done, note: If any of the red or blue adjustments do not function then the set needs convergence circuit repaired, questions? e-mail me back, otherwise Happy New Year, BMW Rider

Color guns out of alignment

It sounds to me like the convergence amps themselves have failed. Ic7001 and Ic7002, both are STK392-110 Sanyo built Ic's and not an expensive job for a qualified shop. When shopping around for a shop to repair it ask what they charge for replacement of the convergence amps in this unit. And take the unit to them to save pickup and delivery charges...

Picture squnches into a thin line in center of screen

this set is known for cold solder connections on the vert output as well as the b+ supply line comming from the flyback xformer that supplys the voltage to the drivers. It could also be the vert output capacitor, The two waveshaper caps in the predriver stage of the vert, the filter cap off the flyback or the vert drive b+. Without going in and getting a schematic it will be hard to say. sets like that unfortantly these days are throwaways. NO NO NO dont throw the set at me I did mean that way!!! Its the cost factor of repairing getting the parts as well the the service diagram. it all adds up.
