When I turn the tv on, after a few minutes color fluctuations begin appearing and there is a vibration coming from the fan area. I removed the lamp, tried to vaccum out the dust, then replaced the lamp. This worked for a few hours then the color fluctuations began again, any insight would be grateful.-Jason

Could be a bad/failing fan. Is the fan still vibrating? Is it making more noise then normal? Most of the time i find that a fan going bad and vibrating raises heck with the rest of the optics in the TV.

You need to replace the thermal sensor. It is located on top of the lamp housing.

SOURCE: Lamp Light still on after replacement

First, A common mistake made is when you insert the orange ribbon cable from the Color Wheel into the DMD bd. To correctly insert the Ribbon Cable you need to look at both sides. You will see a shiny silver side and a dull black/orange side. You must insert the shiny silver side AWAY from the Color Wheel or towards the rear of the set. Now for the Ballast. When you power up the tv,Do you hear a short Buzzing sound? If you do that means that the Ballast is trying to fire up the Lamp and is working. Next, do you hear the Color Wheel spin up? If you do not then you have installed the Color Wheel incorrectly and you need to repeat the installation while making sure that you hold the rubber gasket in perfect place or else it won,t work. Chances are the gasket is in the wrong position and is binding the Glass Wheel. The Ballast is on the right side of the engine and on top of the Lamp Housing. You will see two RED High Voltage wires coming out of one end. Don't worry, there is no stored voltage in the ballast so you won't get a shock providing you have unplugged the tv from the outlet. That is the first step before you change any parts any way. Listen for the correct start sequence. With the rear backing off and the Safety Interlock Switch is being held in the up position, turn on the set. First sound you hear is a clicking which is the power on relay engageing. Then you will hear the fans turn on and then the Color Wheel spin up. Once the Color Wheel spins up and comes to full RPM then the Exciter on the Ballast will Buzz for less than half a second and then the Lamp should light up. Now if you have installed the correct Lamp and correctly installed the Color Wheel and you either are holding up the Interlock Switch or have reinstalled the rear cover and tightened all of the screws you should have a working tv.

SOURCE: tv turns itself off and then back on with audio only

well it might be an issue with your ballast, since it might not be sending enough voltage to the lamp or it can be sending more than it should. i recommend you pout more attention and notice if there's a clciking sound, discountdashmerchantdotcom

SOURCE: TV won't get light to screen??

If you hear the color wheel and then see the lamp actually light up you most likely have a bad DMD board. The part number is either BP96-00678B or BP96-00678D it depends on the chassis you have in your TV. The parts are available through http://www.samsungparts.com

Testimonial: "The TV turns on as soon as you plug it in also?? The remote has no function either when you hit keys it makes the timer light come on."

Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.

My Toshiba DLP Projection TV model number 44NHM84 will turn on but shuts off after 1-2 minutes. What do I need to do to fix this issue?

There are several reasons why your Toshiba DLP projection TV might be turning off after a few minutes. Here are some steps you can take to try and diagnose and fix the issue:
  1. Check the lamp: The most common reason for a DLP TV to shut off after a few minutes is a faulty lamp. Check the lamp to see if it's still functioning properly. If it appears to be damaged or has reached the end of its life (typically around 2000-3000 hours), replace it with a new one.
  2. Check for overheating: Overheating can also cause the TV to shut off. Check the fan to see if it's running properly and clean any dust or debris that may be blocking the airflow.
  3. Check for firmware updates: If the TV's firmware is outdated, it can cause it to shut off. Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates and install them if necessary.
  4. Check the power supply: A faulty power supply can also cause the TV to shut off. Check the power supply unit to see if it's functioning properly and replace it if necessary.
  5. Check the color wheel: If the color wheel is damaged or not functioning properly, it can cause the TV to shut off. Check the color wheel for any damage or signs of wear and replace it if necessary.
If none of these steps solve the issue, it may be necessary to have a professional technician diagnose and repair the TV.

When the TV has been powered on long enough for the lamp unit to get hot, it may take several minutes for the picture to appear on-screen
in the following situations:
• When the Quick Restart™ feature is set to OFF and you turn the TV off and then on again within a few minutes.
• If the TV is on when a short-term power failure, power surge, or other similar power failure occurs, such that the TV loses and regains
power within a few minutes.
This is a property of DLP TV lamp technology and is NOT a sign of malfunction.
If this occurs, the green LED on the TV front panel will blink (and the red LED will be lit solid) until the TV is finished restarting the lamp
and the normal picture appears. If BOTH green and red LEDs are blinking at a one-second rate, you will need to turn the TV off and then
on again to restart the lamp.

Sony grand wega 55in kdf-55a20

Its most likely an intermittent lamp. The lamp door is located behind the front panel. The front panel can be removed after loosening the two thumb wheels located on either end of the TV in the rear. Observe the light coming from the area around the lamp door. If you see that the light is going out, its the lamp. You can also access the self-diagnosis menu by using the remote control. Start with the TV off. Push the "mute", then the number 5 button, and then the volume down button followed by the power button. When the picture appears, the menu will been visable. If there is a failure with the lamp, or a fan, or many other areas in the TV there will be a number value to the right of the parameter that indicates the number of times the error has occurred.

I believe it is the color wheel. The motor might be going bad or it has dirt or dust in it.
