My Maytag Atlantis top load washer will fill with water, but will not start the wash cycle. I have turned the control to all settings, but no response. Can you help me??

my maytag atlantis 7200 series will fill ,but will not wash, it makes a grinding noise throughout the cycle
Sound like the lid switch has went out , you should hear it click when the lid is close to an inch of being closed , they are un-expensive and easy to replace and they go out often from use. Easy to find online with your real model number located under the lid.

The washer with the grind noise is a main bearing going out and may be covered under warr. through maytag.
