The ligth is flashing 8 times giving a waste ink warning

When you are not using the printer, the print-heads move to a "resting" position,
so that the ink-jets do not dry out, and clog themselves.
At this "resting" position, there is a small "garbage-can" that holds the "waste" ink that leaks out of the ink-jets.
Since you've had the printer for a while, and have used it a lot, that "garbage-can" is full of ink, and needs to be emptied, and the "percentage-full" sensor needs to be reset to "zero" percent.
Take your printer to any qualified printer technician, for servicing.
