When you change the ink, be sure to use original ink cartridges and not aftermarket. Next, recalibrate the printer using the software. If you still have a problem after you do those two things then you will need to contact Kodak for a free printhead replacement, this is a major problem with the 5500 AIO inkjet printer and Kodak is aware of there poorly built product. "Printhead Failure" (error code 3802)
To resolve this error:
  1. Open the printer access door.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter from the printer.
  3. Remove and install the printhead two times.
  4. Wait 30 seconds to allow the printer to reset.
  5. Connect the power adapter to the printer. Turn the printer on if necessary.
    • After the printer completes powering up, the message "Printer access door open" will appear.
  6. Close the printer access door.
If error condition continues, contact Kodak for printhead replacement.

You need to remove the software completely to avaoid getting conflicts when installing back the software
Follow the basic steps

1) enable show hidden files and folder

2) delete C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kodak

3) delete C:\Program Files\Kodak

4) run clear again at www.kodak.com/go/clear

5) reinstall the software at www.kodak.com/go/downloads

I found this out when trying to do the same with Epson (after talking to their tech support). The printers with printheads that are reusable (Epson, Canon, Kodak, and whoever else) force you to replace the empty cartridge so that air doesn't get drawn into the printhead, killing it off. The tank still has a little ink in there to keep it from drying out. It's cheaper to replace the cartridge than getting a new printhead.

The cost for the ESP5 printerhead is $24.99 plus shipping.

You need to take it a couple steps further after your test print. Sounds like your print heads need cleaning or your cartridge may need aligning. Within the tool, select Print quality, then No black, missing text, or text quality.

After answering all the questions (assuming you haven't abused your printhead) you will be prompted to enter a service number, name, and address to be mailed a replacement printhead.

I just went through this and was told my printhead would arrive in 2 to 5 business days.

my inks are both full but it will not print out black and the color is faded

It is the print head. Cleaning the heads does not do any good, either does replacing the ink. What you'll need to do is contact Kodak's customer service line and they can replace it for you free of charge. On this site everyone seems to be saying it is consistently the black that stops, however, based on what Kodak said it is possible that either the black or the color can have this same issue.

When you call in they will ask you for your service number, which is located on the bottom left corner of the machine, when you lift the lid (as if you were going to replace the ink). They didn't ask me when I bought it, how much I used it, etc.

They will set up a case for you - it takes 2-3 business days for the print head to arrive. They will provide you with an invoice number as well. Be sure to document it all just incase the head never comes, or if there are additional issues after you receive it (and/or if it doesn't solve the problem)

Software issue. Try a hard reset of printer or uninstall and reinstall the software of unit. in computer that is affected. And if you continue to have issues with it contact the Kodak experts directly on their web site.
