Open the cover to the printer and look inside to see if there are any pieces of paper or debris that may be blocking the print path. Be sure to unplug the printer before touching anything internal to avoid electric shock. If there is something blocking the print path, remove it, close the printer, and try printing again. You can also check inside the printer to see if any components have come loose.

To remove the jammed sheet of paper :

1. Open the upper front door.
2. Grasping the print cartridge by the hand grip, pull it towards you and slightly up to lift it out of the holder.
3. Then pull the cartridge straight out towards you.
4. Locate the feed roller release lever and gently push it back to release the pressure on the paper.
5. Pull the paper out. CAUTION! The paper may be covered with unfused toner, which can stain garments.
6. If you see no paper jammed under the cartridge, remove paper tray 1. The paper may not have fed all of the way into the printer.
7. Reinstall the paper tray and the toner cartridge.
8. Close the upper front door.

    To clear a jam

    1. Remove all media from the output tray.

    2. Check the rear access panel or the duplexer.

    a. Push the button on either side of the rear access panel or the duplexer, and

then remove the panel or unit.

    b. Locate any jammed media inside the device, grasp it with both hands and then

    pull it towards you.

    c. If the jam is not there, push the latch on the top of the duplexer and lower its

cover. If the jam is inside, carefully remove it. Close the cover.

    d. Reinsert the rear access panel or the duplexer into the device.

    3. If you cannot locate the jam, lift the output tray and check for a jam in Tray 1. If

media is jammed in the tray, do the following:

    a. Raise the output tray.

    b. Pull the paper towards you.

    c. Lower the output tray.

    4. If you have not found the jam and have Tray 2 installed, pull out the tray and

remove the jammed media, if possible. If not, do the following:

    a. Ensure the device is turned off and disconnect the power cord.

    b. Lift the device off Tray 2.

    c. Remove the jammed media from the bottom of the device or from Tray 2.

    d. Reposition the device on top of Tray 2.

    5. Open the print carriage access door. If there is paper remaining inside the device,

ensure the carriage has moved to the right of the device, free any paper scraps or

wrinkled media, and pull the media towards you through the top of the device.

WARNING! Do not reach into the device when it is on and the carriage is

stuck. When you open the print carriage access door, the carriage should

return to its position on the right side of the device. If it does not move to the

right, turn off the device before you remove any jam.

    6. After clearing the jam, close all covers, turn on the device (if you turned it off) and

    resend the print job.

Jammed paper

There are 3 places to check for jammed paper.

Turn off the fax machine, then remove the tray and open the back cover, and open the front cover to remove the drum and toner (cartridge) and look inside machine.

After you find the jammed paper put the cartridge and tray back in machine and close all the covers.

Error message should go away.

Paper jam and still won't print

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Before you can clear the error message, you must locate where in the unit the paper is jammed.

Unplug the machine for safety. Now follow these instructions based on where the paper jam is located.

1. Pull the paper tray out of the machine.
2. Pull out the jammed paper.
3. Reset the machine by opening the Upper Jam Clear Cover and then closing it.

If you cannot remove the jammed paper from the front of the machine, or the error message still appears on the LCD after you have removed the jammed paper, please go to the next step.

4. Remove the Lower Jam Clear Cover from the back of the machine. Pull the jammed paper out of the machine.

5. Put the Lower Jam Clear Cover back on. Make sure the cover is set properly.

6. Open the Upper Jam Clear Cover. Make sure that there is no jammed paper left in the corners of the machine.
Note: If the paper is jammed under the print head, unplug the machine from the power source, then move the print head to take out the paper. 7. Close the Upper Jam Clear Cover.

8. Close the output paper tray cover and slide it forward, then push the paper tray firmly back into the machine. While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the paper support until it clicks and unfold the paper support flap.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Paper jam. I am getting an error message to open door, clear carriage jam, and then press enter. I did that but proble persists. There is no paper in the machine, no jam.

It is most likely that there is still a piece of paper in the machine. Was the paper you removed from the machine torn? Are you certain you have all the pieces?
Most HP printers have an access panel on the back that you can open to retrieve paper jams. Many people don't know to open that panel and look for paper. Try that.

How do I clear misfeed.

In most cases where the machine says there is a jam, and there is no paper in the paper path, it's because the paper never got out of the paper drawer and didn't reach the 1st jam sensor. If you can open the machine and it resets, then chances are the paper feed roller is either slipping or in some cases not turning at all. If you can't clear the jam by turning off the machine, and back on, then you have a bad jam setect sensor or perhaps a small piece of paper lodged on the jam sensor. This will take some additional troubleshooting on your part. Need to know if the jam indicator goes away when you restart the machine. Let me know and I'll try to guide you from that point.
