Are you using original HP garbage? If not, the printer is designed to not work with refills.(there is a work around on the web)
If it is an original cartridge, perform a test print to see what happens. Should work if not, make sure that the printer driver you are using is compatible with OS. If all that checks out and still nothing, you can try to hard reset the printer. If still nothing, get a new printer, not an HP. When they work, they are fine - but their customer service SUCKS big time. They will only render assistance during warranty period. After that they refer you to a forum or suggest you get another unit - an hp of course!

The HP printer was prepared to use HP's photo paper to print borderless pictures among other things.
If you use a third party photo paper, try using A4 size, position the picture in the paper using MS Word or another WYSIWYG program and, after printing, cut the picture in the right size.

Sorry, forgot to get back to ya..
anyway, remove control panel cover, remove button panel, you will see a little tab right at the top, push that down and unlock and discconect, remove small ribbon on the underside. use torx driver and remove screws so that you can remove the whole top gray housing, you want to access where the scanner bulb comes to rest, there will be a black plastic cover over the scanner bulb, REMOVE THAT PIECE, its about 2" wide by 10" long, unclip it by putting small screwdriver in small rectangular slots and pry lightly to the right, there are little tab locks in there.
With that removed, just put things back loosely to see if the warming up stops when turning on or trying to use scanner, if everything works well, do alittle cleaning and put thing all back together.. this should solve your warming up promlem..

This seems to be hardware issue. Try removing the cartridges and clean the electrical contacts ( golden dots ) and reinstall.
If this does not work, i doubt it must be mechanical issue. Try contacting HP Support on 1-800-474-6836 (US Support )
Also you can try to unplug the power cable from back of the printer ( printer should be on ) then press and hold the cancel + Power button and reconnect the power cable and release the buttons after 2-3 seconds.
