Weird water-like image distortion

I have this ViewSonic VG2230wm quite a while now and i have the following problem. On the left side if the screen, while the resolution and refresh rate are of course what they are suppose to be, there is like a Distortion in the image, like its not syncing very well and if i put something like a text on the left side of the screen you can clearly see the letters somewhat trembling and shaking, its like very frequent water ripples. This problem though dissapears as you move more and more to the right, but its clearly visible to at least no the 1/3 of the screens horizontal length.

I've checked all of the options on the monitor's menu as well as the gpu's options. I've changed the connection from dvi to d-sub, changed the cables, even tried a different pc but its still there..

I dont know what else to do, im at the point thinking that the monitor is just broken. Please if you have any ideas or knowledge on this please share it with me.

Thanks in advance! :)

Thanks for replying ChipcircuiT but im afraid that i dont have enough knowledge in electronics to perform this that you are saying, but i never thought that it could be a power problem. Helpful! :) Its connected on a UPS unit though :/

OK, the problem is fixed! The only cable that i have never changed was the problem, and that is the Power Cable! I've changed the power cable and now everything is sweet! :)

It appears that the problem is still there, even though i changed the cable when i restarted it did the same thing, i had to turn off to monitor and then turn it on again and it got fixed.. it appears that i have to turn off and on the monitor each time I restart the pc.. Any clews?

This is electronic advice, dont do with yourself if you dont have experince about electronics,it will be very dangerous...if you have experience then you do this...
you open the lcd and you remove the power supply chips, it contains more capacitors like 1200mF 16v..i think so..but check the voltage if it is correct in the volt meter, caused the sounds like power distortion..if the voltage is less the screen will be "trembling and shaking, its like very frequent water ripples. This problem though dissapears as you move more and more to the right, but its clearly visible to at least no the 1/3 of the screens horizontal length." check

Removing back panel of a viewsonic monitor

There are almost always plastic clips along with the screws. I'd recommend buying a plastic pry bar. You can google for them online and they cost $1 or so.

Viewsonic vg2230wm - the screen is blank when the computer first boots. I have to turn the monitor power switch on/off several times before the screen turns on, then it is fine.

Check your VGA (Visual Graphic Adapter) connector from your C.P.U (Central Processing Unit) to your monitor if it is intact. If it is intact , replace the VGA cable first. Then if the problem still persist check for the VGA driver in the device manager if it is correctly installed. If the problem persist try and send mail to me on [email protected]
Cheers.

My Viewsonic VG2230wm refuses to use its native resolution of 1680 x 1050. Whenever I select this resolution, it registers on the computer display settings, but when I check on the monitor display panel...

You will need to adjust your monitor settings in the NVidia control panel. You can get to this by right clicking somewhere in a blank spot on your desktop and then selecting it from the menu. You will want to go into the Display section. If you aren't able to see that section, change from "Standard" to "Advanced" settings at the top of the screen.

This is due to a bad pin or bent pin or a bad connection isde the monitor or can even be a bad signal cable. Check all of these when in doubt check the solder points inside the unit.

Vg2230wm monitor Will not power on

probably your power supply. Is it a cord direct from plug in for is there a box between where you plug it in and then a small round end that goes into the monitor. This would be the good news. If it plugs in direct then that means the power sopply is in the monitor itself which means more expensive to fix
