I have a Viewsonic VP201b monitor that's been acting weird for the last several months. After the unit has warmed up (clearly a temp-related component problem,) the right half of the screen will start to distort, waver like it's under water, then bail out altogether into vertical gradient-like stripes echoing the colors of my background graphic. If I power the monitor off and on again the stripes will have changed to vertical black and white stripes.
After several minutes that half of the screen will go back to watery and wavering, and occasionally go back to normal function - for a few minutes.
A couple months after the right half began doing this, the left started the same thing - now the HD on that system also died so I'm just using my laptop.
I'm thinking there's some simple component that's got a temperature-related longevity problem. I got the VP201b for around $350 (after cashing some of my employer's award bonus certificates against the original $750 price.) I'm wondering if there's any point to having the thing repaired vs. just junking it and springing for a new one.
Thanks!
