Mfc 290, replaced ink cartridges and the black will not print only the colors. printer cleaned and no progress. any help?

You could clean the black ink cartridge. For this you need to remove the black ink cartridge which is present in the printer. In order to clean the laser or scanner block you could use a cotton swab as it would fully clean the dirt. You need to clean the grime and the dried ink present in the printer. This would remove all the hindrances which prevent the ink from flowing. Cleaning the printer heads would also help to solve the problem.

My printer will not print black but is printing all other colours ok

Possible that the B/W cartridge is not contacting or is blocked. remove and fit back. Now remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and connect the Printer to be detected and installed. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.
Use head cleaning before a test is taken . It is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the command , can be an issue with ink drying , can also be poor ink cartridge contacts

What is a Hardware Error 0502?

There is a shiny steel bar inside the printer, and the ink cartridges move up and down this bar to print on the page. If this bar gets gunked up from stray ink or paper dust, then the motor strains to move the print heads back and forth, and you get this error.

Fixing it is simple. Take some kleenex, and with power unplugged, clean the bar very well. Then Spray some WD-40 on a Kleenex, and lubricate the bar by wiping the WD-40 kleenex on the bar.

If this helps, be sure to hit the "thumbs-up" for me!
