Folks, these types of severe cartridge errors (i.e. "refer to documentation" / "incompatible cartridges", etc.) typically indicate the internal micro-electronics of the HP #60-61 cartridge are electrically damaged. The cartridge's electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge, are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure due to prolonged ink exposure and subsequent circuit corrosion. I suggest you always run a 'Tap 41' diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a forced test); you may also bypass the error (temporarily) on C4600-C4700 models which use HP 60 cartridges. SOURCE: Print Cartridge is Incompatible

Pleas be certain to remove the clear tape from the cartridge before inserting. Check the contact areas in the printer to ensure there is no tape residue or other material in this area. Go to the HP website and follow the troubleshooting instructions for this problem.

SOURCE: How do I reset the ink levels on a HP Deskjet

First try the information below

Check that you removed the protective tape. some cartridges have two of these pieces of tape one over the head and possibly on on the contacts to the printer.

If you recently re-filled or had the cartridge refilled or even bought one of the many cheaper replacement cartridges you should read on

Most modern cartridges have an ink level chip built on to them.
Should the level drop below 25% then most of these chips lock up and will not reset.

Re-filling them will have no effect

If you are lucky you should be able to find either a chip resetter around on the INTERNET or maybe even local

OR

Even better empty cartridges that never need to be reset.
The second option is my preference

I realise these are not for your specific printer but there are others listed on both those sites as well.

cheaper cartridge problems have been on the rise recently and that is for ALL makes of printer.

Can you remove the battery from an hp F4480 printer to make it ignore incompatible cartridge message

Unfortunately, this does not work.

With respect to the HP 60 cartridge error message ("Incompatible Print Cartridges") and inability to print with your HP Deskjet F4480 printer, this type of error is normally associated to an electrical connection issue between the printer and the cartridge, or more likely, an internal micro-electronic failure inside the cartridge itself (which is typical of the 'incompatible error' alert). These same failures can (and randomly do) occur with brand new ink cartridges.* To help identify the root cause, please run the 'Tap 41' cartridge's electrical / diagnostic tests below (refer to A. and B), this will identify which ink cartridge is causing the issue:

Please first verify the age of the ink cartridge(s)....look at imprinted date on front of ink cartridge. If this 'warranty expiration date' has expired, then potential internal electrical cartridge failures can occur due to internal corrosion, etc.

NOTE: Unfortunately, alignment pages and internal self test prints will usually print Ok even if the cartridge is internally electrically damaged. Do not use these test pages as a proxy for determining whether a cartridge is good or bad, only the 'Tap 41/43' diagnostic test report can yield this information.

As a temporary workaround, or if you are unable to determine which cartridge is causing the issue, remove one of the ink cartridges from the printer....this might place the printer into the 'single cartridge printer mode'....print jobs may then be executed from the computer (only):

An internal electrical failure of a cartridge can be confirmed by performing the following corrective/diagnostic steps:

A.Ensure BOTH carriage/flex cables and BOTH ink cartridge contacts are thoroughly clean before proceeding: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

B.Validate the cartridge's electrical health by running the 'Tap 41' diagnostics test. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TAP 41 video procedure at the following link on how to activate and read the service test:

http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=440 (HP 60 - Deskjet F2400/F4400/F4500 models)
1.While holding the Power button, press Cancel (X) button 4 times, then press the Color Copy button once.
    2.Release the Power button.
3.The 'Tap 41' diagnostic test print should print.

--- Providing the color cartridge is partially functioning the Tap 41 diagnostic test print will be printed (this is a forced service print test which is mainly used for the evaluation of ink cartridge electrical health). A good HP 60/60XL color cartridge should display 1248 good nozzles, while a good HP 60/60XL black ink cartridge should show 336 good nozzles. If the results yield anything different then the ink cartridge is likely damaged and will need to be replaced. Refer to 2nd video on how to read the printout.
        http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=440 (HP 60 - Deskjet F2400/F4400/F4500 models)
        http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=444 (HP 60 - Deskjet F4200 model)

---- If the printer attempts to print the diagnostic test pattern (1 page) then the printer is generally considered operational and functional, if nothing is printed, but the printer attempts to print the pattern, then the tri-color ink cartridge is either empty, clogged or severely electrically damaged (black ink cartridge is not used). You can remove the tri-color cartridge, reactivate the tap 41 test and the printer will print the diagnostic test print in black ink.

NOTE: To our team's knowledge there is no 'cartridge error bypass' method available for the HP Deskjet printer model. The cartridge will mostly likely need to be replaced with a new one.

Printer Error Message

Yes, there a few items you need to consider with respect to HP 61 (or 61XL) cartridge errors messages on any HP Deskjet 1000 through 3510 printer model:
If you get an HP 61 / 61XL integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. currently offered at Costco or Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels cannot be reset (HP has a smart chip embedded within the nozzle plate at base of ink cartridge which counts the drops and then registers as empty).....so you'll just need to live with it and ignore ink low, non-genuine, counterfeit messages and similar while you are using these types of aftermarket supplies. The first video below provides an overview of this low ink phenomena.
If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 61 / 61XL ink cartridge refuses to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. Ensure you press OK or Cancel up to six times to clear out the printer error log.
These types of severe cartridge errors (i.e. Incompatible cartridges, Black/Color cartridge(s) problem / Cartridge not intended for this printer, etc.) typically indicate the internal micro-electronics of the HP 61 cartridge are electrically damaged. The cartridges electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure due to prolonged ink exposure and subsequent circuit corrosion. I suggest you run a Tap 41 diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a forced service test so the printer will attempt to send whether cartridges are good or not); Refer to Inkjet411 youtube videos below:

Will HP 60 ink cartridge work with HP Deskjet 2460? Tnx.

This is all HP recommends for the HP Deskjet 2460, so I wouldn't suggest buying anything else. First of all it might not fit and second, even if it fits, other issues may come with using those. If you can't see the list here it is:
