SOURCE: GPS doesnt turn on with power cord adaptor or 12v lighter socket

if you can verify that the car charger is ok, try plugging it in to your computer using the usb cable. the 1412 should charge with the usb cable. if it still doesnt turn on, try and reset the unit, little pin hole on the side.

SOURCE: how do I change the battery in a magellan roadmate

remove the the four screws from the back cover and the back will come off exposing the battery.

careful while removing the cover, the speaker wire is connected to it but you can change the battery with it connected.

chance are its not the battery!

make sure green light is on the car charger and let it plugged in for awhile, then hold the power button (upto ten seconds) until it starts..if that fails

the following magellan 2000,2200t,2500,3000,3100,3140,4000,4040 and the 4050 are known to have faulty dc connectors...if your magellan gps is not charging or will not power up, its most likely the dc power port...i sell these power ports and will repair them for anyone thats not able to do it themselves.

you can get it repaired, or the part here
or buy the port here

if you need further help, just let me know

Testimonial: "Thanks for the help..changed out thr battery...old one was all swollen and seemed close to rupture. Everything is good now...thx."

Magellan Roademate 5045 frozen on map screen. Is there any way of restarting it? There is no small hole for a reset button and I tried holding the power slider for ten seconds. No luck

I had exact same 'Magellan 5045 frozen' problem. Here is how I fixed it. Go to www.magellangps.com/contentmanager. Download and install Magellan Content Manager. Plug in your GPS. If content manager does not activate automatically, start it manually, like any other windows program or by right clicking on its icon. You will be asked to register your device and its serial number, etc.
After registering, if Content Manager fails to take you directly to the download location for your device, along the top of the Magellan web pages you will see a set of tabs, one of those is 'Support'. This is a pull-down menu. Select Manuals and Software update. This then takes you to their 'Support' web page. On the support web page, click on the 'Manuals and Software Downloads' button. This will take you to a page where you will be asked to select from four Download Categories. For the roadmate 5045 and similar gps intended to be used in an auto, select 'Magellan Vehicle Navigation'. This will take you to another page where you will have to select from three product series. For the 5045 series, select 'Roadmate Series'. This is another pulldown where you will have to select your product number, e.g., Roadmate 5045. This will finally take you to a page where you can select software and map updates. You will have to connect your Roadmate gps to your computer via USB and you will have to register. It is confusing because you will get incorrect and irrelevant statements like your device failed to register. It is somewhat quirky but if you follow the instructions and you have a wideband cable or FIOS internet connection, the upgrade to the software and the maps takes about 30 minutes. Do unplug your RoadMate from the USB unless asked to do so by the Content Manager program. After the software and maps update, the Roadmate 5045 worked like better than new for me.

My Magellan RoadMate 1340 will power up to logo and "moving clock

Have you tried updating the software on your device.
Go to Magellan.com and download the Magellan Content Manger:
http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.asp?tab=0&PRODID=2216
Once you've installed Content Manger onto your PC, connect your device to your PC using the USB cord. The Content Manager will allow you to update your 1340 with the latest software and updates which 'should' fix the problem that you're having with your unit.
