Reverse works but Auto does not. I have unplugged it, cleaned the gears, and replugged it but Auto does not work. Suggestions?
My shredder would not sense paper being inserted and the sensor could not be cleaned. So "Auto" no longer worked but the manual reverse DID work. I opened the thing up, reversed the polarity on the red and black wires on the connector for the main drive motor and VOILA!!! I can use my shredder in manual mode by switching it to REV. Be mindful that this keeps the motor running until it is switched off. This can heat the motor and cause failure so I limit my shredding to 60 seconds then give it a rest so it will cool down. Also there is no emergency reverse so watch your fingers and neck ties.

Check for stuck paper and remove if any. Then check if motor is ok with a multimeter and also main switch.

I work with Fellowes shredders so I can't tell you about the automode but to get out the jam you can try this:
Remove as much paper as you can with a needlenose pliers or something with a good grip from both the top and bottom of the shredder than saturate any paper left in the machine with a vegetable based oil only do not use any petroleum based oil (may cause fire)
Let that soak for up to 8 hours this should soften up the paper enough to let you power thru the jam as soon as you get power. You should be able to do a search online to find a customer service number for your shredders manufacturer. Good Luck!

sensor is dirty. clean the sensor. it is located approx. 3 inches from left side of paper slot, 1 inch below top.
Testimonial: "I got this reply long ago & it worked perfectly. I was a new user & obviously did not do every thing necessary to remove it from my question list. "
Make sure there is no paper shreds blocking the sensors on top and also underneith the cutters. Use a cotton q-tip to clean dust from sensors and maybe compressed air.

If it happened within a year, you should have just had the warranty replace it. We had it happen after nearly 11 months, it was replaced within two days.
