If your equipment makes abnormal noise when you try to switch on again then gear problem is confirmed else the change over switch should be defective or there may be a open circuit in the change over switch connection I shall advice you to call the service engineer for fixing the problem else take safty pecaution to attempt repairs

Shredder drive gear is probably shredded - hard part to find or replace usually. Could mean a new shredder;-(

Make sure there is no paper blocking the sensors. Otherwise you may have a bad sensor or switch.

Well, the shredder will work but it has a grinding sound and it will take only a couple of inches of paper before it stops and I have to pull out and reinsert the paper. That is with no more than one or two sheets.
Another brand uses oil to lubricate the teeth and the gears. Would that help?

no auto-start, power on, feed paper, no stop after
there is paper stuck in the shredder and the reverse button is not working
I'm in the middle of shredding old phone bills, from the past 4 years. I was shredding 4 sheets of paper when suddenly, in the middle of that batch, the shredder just stopped. I tried to reverse it, but nothing happened. The paper is now stuck in the shredder, and there is no noise when I turn it on or when I try to reverse it. Nothing happens. I tried to get shreds out of the coils underneath, but that did not help, either.
squeaked and then stopped shredding
