SOURCE: dim compaq s510 crt colored monitor

Hi, If you are comfortable working with tools, down to component level and know how to work around EHV areas, then it is possible to increase the brightness of any monitor including the Compaq S510. Make sure that the unit is unplug, Open the back cover and locate the FBT. You have to run/power on/attach a running PC to the unit with the cover off. Extreme care must be exercised. If you are not sure, you're better off asking a qualified service professional to do the adjustment. There two plastic slotted adjustables, focus & screen. Adjusting the screen changes the screen voltage going to the CRT. This will make the display go very dark or overly too bright. Adjust to your preference (not necessarily technically correct) The focus may also be adjusted this way. You have to run the unit with the back cover open for a couple of minutes to stabilize the voltages and the heater/CRT/ Adjust after a couple of minutes if necessary. In other monitors, there is a trimpot (small variable resistor) the adjusts the sub-bright. Further improvement maybe achieved by adding a 100uF/250V capacitor across the supply of the 70+VDC of the 3 gun transistors. If you are sure how to go about this, it is best to consult or seek the services of a qualified TV technician who can either show where and how or do the job himself. Hope this be of some help to you. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.

Have you tried using the Degauss option?

Press the Menu button on your Monitor and go to the Special Section. You should be able to find the degauss option there. Not sure it will work but its worth a try.

SOURCE: Monitor: Compaq TFT5015 Displays vertical lines

Check that the signal cable from the computer is firmly connected and that there are no bent pins in either end. If the trouble continues, the problem is in the monitor itself. Given the low replacement cost, it's uneconomical to try repairing these.

My monitor colour has changed to yellowish

The first thing to try is to make sure the video connections both at the monitor and the PC are secure. A number of color image problems are just a loose connection. Make sure you remove the connectors and then reseat them when you do this.

Not true color

I seem to have found the solution (and the cause, perhaps?) for this problem!

I was having the EXACT same problem with a monitor I'm repairing for a friend. The capacitors on the power supply board were blown (CapXon capacitors, who'd've guessed), which was keeping it from powering up. After replacing the capacitors, the screen worked beautifully. But it had this weird yellow tint!

The strange part was that pure colors - red, green, blue - all appeared perfectly OK on screen. Curiously, the menus would show in the proper colors, except for one: the manual color adjustment menu, which illustrated "Blue" as a sort of off-green in the icon. Auto-Adjust would always fix the colors for a split second, then go back to yellow. Reset didn't fix it. Color reset didn't either. So, exactly the same problem as above.

The solution I found was hidden within the main menu itself, a sort of "easter egg". Hold the Menu button down while pressing Power, and hold it down until the screen, and menu, appear. There will now be a hidden selection, "Auto Color", printed in a red-on-black font at the bottom of the menu. Use the +/- buttons to access it, and press Menu. Voila! PERFECT COLOR! Perhaps this menu was accessed by accident, and calibrated to an incorrect color key. But now my picture works great, and the setting lasts through Auto-Adjusts and Resets!

Monitor color has been changed to yellowish.

There are three Cathod Ray guns responsible for the millions of
colors. All colors are produced by mixing the three basic colors namely
Red Green and Blue (RGB) at suitable proportion. If any one of the
three guns fail firing then we get improper colors.
Try
(1) Simply tap on the monitor and see the result.(Keep the monitor on during this trial.)
(2) Disconnect the Monitor.and Slap it at the back by keeping it on a pillow with the screen facing down - it will resolve the problem if the failure is due to the loosening of the Head due to repeated thermal expansion and contraction.
(3) check the signal cable for loose connection, twisting etc on both ends - at the back of the CPU and Monitor (it is fixed) -
(4)tighten the screws at the backside of the CPU

Best of luck
