I Have the solution for the sound driver of HP Compaq Presario C700 on windows XP.
First Please Download the driver (Conexant HDAudio 221_XP) from the link.
Now you have to do the following steps:
1- Go to device Manager and open (Sound, video and game controllers).
2- Check if the (Conexant HD-Audio Smart Audio) is recognized?
3- If not recognized go to the next point, if it was then right click and go to properties then under the driver tab click uninstall driver and now scan for the uninstalled hardware and follow the next instructions.
4- Under Device Manager again open (Conexant HD-Audio Smart Audio), now right click and chose update driver.
5- Now Click on (No, not this time) and click Next.
6- Now choose (Install from a list or specific location [Advance]) and click Next.
7- Now choose (Don't search I will choose the driver to install) and click Next.
8- Now Remove the tick (Show Compatable Hardware) and click (Have Disk).
9- Now you should Browse the file you downloaded (Conexant HDAudio 221_XP) and open XP32 and locate the (WiSVHe5.inf) file.
10- Force the installation to complete and then all your problems should be solved.
I did it this way and it's working properly now,
Good luck all, for more information you contact me on my email: [email protected]

This model of Presario has an audio controller that supports the high definition audio. You need to have Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio installed on the computer before installing the audio driver.
Here is the link for the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture driver:
Please do not click on the weblink. Copy and paste the entire web link in a new Internet Explorer Window address bar and click Enter.
After installing the UAA driver, restart the Notebook and then install the Audio driver from the link below .

Vista has Mirosofts MUAA built in XP does not. You need to install MUAA on XP. Get it Here and install. Your modem will be picked up right away. Now get your XP connexant HD audio drivers. Here. Install.
Get the AR5007EG XP 32 driver Here . Click -> start devmgmt.msc . Right click the missing device and select update driver. Point it to your AR5007EG install path. Select specific location then choose then have disk. point it to AR5007EG install path. Select the bottom device that says AR5006.

WOW!! so many go here download this and that and then this again. Why are people making this harder than t is? PC Wizard, Drivermax and various others are complete junk!!! Most of which have strings attached (limited use have to buy to download drivers only scans gives wrong drivers etc.) A program I have come to trust myself has been SlimDrivers from SlimDrivers Free This program to e is gold. sure it has a paid for version that automatically will download and install but the free one works just fine. Yes there is a pop up ad to purchase but this is after you finish the initial installing of a driver. as it let's you know you have it successfully installed. In no way does this ad mean anything such as you have to buy the program for a complete update or to continue to get updates.
However drivers are not always the cause of problems. Sometime another program will reconfigure an original setting without you knowing. Thus we end up thinking there is a problem with the driver. Not at all you may just need to do a simple operation as to restore the driver to default settings Which can be done using device manager.
Your situation sounds like an issue with Microsoft since downgrading to XP. It may not recognize the audio device until all XP updates are installed.
Whether upgrding Windows or downgrading, you should alway make sure that Window updates are completely installed to most recent before installing any program(s) or other updates (Intel Realtek and so on.) doing this will assure everything is properly placed. Unfortunately now XP no longer has new updates but you can still obtain manually all updates through Microsoft for sp1 and once the auto updater is renewed, it will complete the rest. Another thing unfortunate is that tis can take a few hours if not 2-3 days to complete "ALL" XP updates now.
