DVD+R DL wont work in my JVC DVD/VHS RECORDER

The only DVD'S for over 120 minuets I found was VERBATIN 8x 240 minuets---AND IT would not except>>said "unknown DVD"! I paid close to 20 bucks for 5 DVD'S---THAT DONT WORK! I have some old home movies I wanted to take off the VHS and put on a DVD. Can that be done? This JVC recorder was bought in 2010--not that old! It does fine in regular 120 minuets. What am I to do?

SOURCE: JVC DR-M100S

try recording on a re-writeable dvd i had exactly the same problem on a dr-m100 (the more primitive version of the dr-m100s) as follows: -- heard a distinct pop while recording -- after that, an error message indicating that i am trying to record on a write protected disk, even though i am not. recording on standard blank dvd now impossible. -- unit still plays dvd normally, except it takes twice as long to find beginning of program -- wierdly, it still records on re-writeable dvd's. the re-writeable dvd must be formatted correctly. the unit still formats re-writeable dvds normally

SOURCE: VHS won't work

Had the same problem on my JVC vcr/dvd combo unit.
You need to turn off the timer function. I did this by making sure my remote was in the "VHS" mode...turn the swith from TV to the right (found on the remote in the upper left corner...an then hit the "vcr" button. Then point the remote at the VCR unit and hit the No. 4 button (timer turns off). Your unit should not have the red timer displayed and you should be able to play your tapes okay.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have a JVC DR-MV5S. When I dub a VHS to DVD,

The disk must be finalized. Instructions are on page 79 of the instruction booklet for the MV5S. I can't get the manual to download from the MVC site, but maybe it will work later. Hopefully you have the manual.

Get the upgraded disc and go to Staples and get the generic Staples discs. I hope this helps and good luck. Please vote appropriately and leave a message.

Won't recognize blank DVD+R disc

Try the next disc in the stack, and see if it will recognize the next one. If not, the problem is most likely the recording speed of the +R disc. Before you go changing disc types, however, I would also check the Record Mode you have set for the dub - if the REC Mode is set for XP, try changing the mode to SP and see if you have any luck. If it still won't work, try one of the tested +R discs:
SONY (2.4x, 4x, 8x, 16x)
TDK (4x)
Mitsubishi (4x, 8x)
Ricoh (2x, 4x, 8x)

Incompatible disk message

You need to read page 8 of the JVC CU-VD20 DVD Burner instruction manual:
Recommended DVD-R Vendor - JVC, TDK, Verbatim, SONY
Writing Speed for DVD-R is 8X maximum, this is the real issue as I first bought 16X TDKs and they did not work, so now I need to buy 8X.
That's a bummer as most stores only supply 16X now.
