Your ps2 isn't reading cause your drive is dying. you can get a lil
more out of it by opening the ps2 up, (void your warranty if you have
one you will yess....) after flipping the top part of the cover to the
side (careful the power and reset button have a cable still connected)
you will want to remove the screws on the dvd rom, 4 lil tiny screws.
then remove the cover. you will see the lens and behind that a White
GEAr about the size of quarter. mark the teeth that meet the metal clip
on the left hand side of it with a marker. then twist the gear
clockwise slowly (click click click click) then you will hear a sound
and the laser will drop down. now do 2 to four clicks clockwise and
then put the thin cover back on the ps2 and boot it up and try a game
out. (please place cover back over dvd rom area for the dvd's fly off
and then the laser will melt a hole in your brain.) its' basically
readjusting the laser to read the cds. the blue ones are hard really
hard to get it to ready but silvers and ps1 are easiest. so if it
dosen't read the dvd or cd shut off the system take the thin cover back
off and do 2 to 4 more clicks clockwise and repeat until the cd reads.

Mine did the same thing. The laser for the PS2 games, and DVD's died. I guarentee that it plays CD's and PS1 games perfectly. if so, the laser needs replaced. and what you have to do is order one on Ebay or something, and have some one put it in. I put a new laser in mine, and well, I am watching a DVD on it right now.
this is a problem with some ps3's especialy the high GB ones like mine. they made it so most if not all of the ps2 games cannot be played to cut down on price and to leave room for all the memory. so you can still play ps1's but you cant play ps2's. sorry
It's likely the DVD laser behind the lens is faulty, this would allow it to only play PS1 games. You can try contacting sony as they do both warranty and non warranty repairs.
if u are trying to play old ps2 games the sumtimes have trouble reading them wot u could try is cleaning the games and the lazer inside the ps2 with a cleaning disk the should sort it out
Your question is somewhat confusing, using a playstation 2 memory card, will have PS2 game saves on it, how would you play PS2 games on a PS1 from the save, you can't.
If you just mean you are using a PS2 card for a PS1, the way a PS2 card saves data is different to a PS1 card, so it probably won't work
You can use your PS1 memory cards in the PS2. You can only use the PS1 memory cards to save PS1 games that you are playing in your PS2. You can't save any PS2 game data to a PS1 memory card
