SOURCE: Insignia Pilot doesn't always recognize music files
Okay...here we go!
1) Back up all your files on the player.
2) Re-format the player in windows as either FAT16 or FAT32 (no this will not remove the OS firmware).
3) Place your files back onto the player.
The volatile memory on these units can become corrupted if your USB connection is underpowered, split too many times, or has a few devices also drawing power.
This should fix your problem.
Good luck!

Connect it to your PC, right click on the device under My Computer. You should see the device. Right Click on it, and if you do not see "Format", then open it. There should be drives, such as internal Storage. Right click here. You should see "Format". This wipes the device completely.

i had the same problem i fixed it myself,on the back of the player there is a tiny black dot near the top of the battery cover remove this dot to reveal a small eye glass type screw remove the screw with an eye glass repair kit or a straight razor, gently remove the battery cover be extra carefull because there is a tiny wire attached to the battery on the bottom of the wire is a little plastic prong gently pull it off the player with your fingernail and then place it back on press power and your player should be working
