DC-17 - Reattaching the U-Bend piece in the back of the machine

After taking the U-bend piece off of my DC-17 to clean the machine, I cannot reattach the piece. Specifically, the piece will not re-latch. Can someone explain this process to me so that I can reattach the piece?
Thanks!

My Hoover steam vac spin scrub will not suction up the cleaning solution . Why is there no suction?

p{margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px;} Hello,

Thank you for your recent e-mail. I am sorry to read about the problem that you are having with your cleaner.

Please make sure your recovery tank and lid are installed correctly and forming proper seals. Make sure that your filter is clean of any debris. Clean the screen in the tank lid. Make sure your nozzle and squeegee (if on your model) are free of dirt/lint/hair and attached in their holsters correctly. Make sure you do not have any clogs in the hose.

To restore suction, please try the following:

*Remove dirty water tank and clean filters- main reason for low suction is dirty filter

*Verify the dirty water tank cap is not missing.

*Verify dirty water tank lid is inserted completely into unit.

*When cleaning, the yellow float inside of dirty water tank should be free moving.

• First remove your clean water tank and unplug the machine
• Remove the dirty water tank lid and push the front panel piece (square plastic sliding piece in the front of tank) down to make sure it is inserted all the way.
• When reattaching the lid, hook the tabs on the front of the lid to the tank first, then click shut in the back. Pull up on the lid firmly, it should not lift at all. If it does, try reattaching as a seal needs to be formed for suction.
• Test to see if suction has been regained.

If these suggestions do not solve your issue please call a service center.

Your cleaner has at least a 6 month warranty for manufacturing defects. This warranty begins from the date of purchase, with the original sales receipt. If you do not have the original sales receipt, the warranty may be verified at the warranty repair center by MFG or serial number.

Please visit www.Hoover.com and click on service center locator for a list of authorized dealers in your area for service and warranty assistance.

I took off the u-bend part to clean it, but now i cannot reinstall the U BEND assy Part on the dyson dc 17. Is there a parts manual that will visually show how to snap it back into place?

Hi there,

You can download a copy of the DC17 user guide from the Support section of our website:

I have a DC07 which is not picking up very well. I've cleaned the pre motor filter, was not aware of the post motor and will check. However, do the Dyson brush rollers wear to the point of not picking up...

Hi The filter is only part of the cleaning process with a Dyson.

I would suggest you get a 2 p peice and unscrew the plastic screws on the base. You will likely find that this area has clogged up. Clean this area out and put soleplate back on.

Also check your u bend and at the side of the Dyson there is a a piece called the valve carriage which also comes off.

You can put your filters, u bend and valve carriage release in the washing machine.

My vaccume has little suction

Hello :

1: Check that the Dyson's brushbar knob is turned to the "Carpets" setting for vacuuming non-delicate and raised pile carpet. Vacuuming carpet on the "Bare floor" setting usually leaves a telltale single wheel mark on the pile, and pickup is severely limited.

2:Locate the removable filter on the side of the vacuum. It will be marked with a raised circular representation.

3:Press down on the release button with your thumb as you lift filter housing up and out

4:Examine the filter for debris. Wash the blue foam and yellow framed filter in cold water. (See Tips section.) Let dry for 12 hours. Do not wash the outer filter housing that snaps into the vacuum; simply wipe clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Replace the filter when completely dry.

5:Locate the airway inspection valve on the opposite side of the vacuum. Press the release button as you lift the valve up and away from the machine.

6:Remove any debris or clogs you find inside.

7:Use a soft cloth to clean up lighter debris and completely clear the airway valve.

8:Tip the Dyson vacuum over to find the U-bend at the back of the unit. Press the release button as you pull the U-bend down and away from the machine.

9:Inspect the U-bend and remove debris. Be sure to line up the release button as you snap the U-bend back into place.

10:Check all removable pieces to be sure they are attached properly and snapped correctly into place. The soleplate should be flush with the cleanerhead.

What you need for this :

  • Large slotted screwdriver
  • Scissors
  • Washcloth
  • Soft cleaning cloths
  • Household surface cleaner, safe for plastics
  • Crochet hook or similar long-handled tool

Warning :

Unplug the vacuum before doing any troubleshooting. Follow all manufacturer's instructions and warnings. The yellow encased filter and blue foam filter pad can be submerged and rinsed in cold water only. Do not use detergent. Do not wash or dry in dish or laundry machines. Do not dry in the oven or microwave.

My Hoover SteamVac has been doing a wonderful job but in two instances, after emptying the dirty water and reattaching the reservoir, the machine has lost suction. The first time I was able to make it work...

look for the lower tank filter to be clean. also make sure the lower tank lid is on properly. latch when installed on machine. Make sure the front panel duct is on the lower tank.

My DC17 hose has no suction and is constricting

You have a blockage in the wand - take the wand off of the back of the machine, separate the wand from the hose by pushing the red button where the hose is attached to the wand. Hold the wand up in the air and look trough it. If you don't see light coming through the other end you have a blockage in the wand. Take a long object like a stick or a metal hanger and remove the blockage. I am confident that this is where the blockage is but...if you can see through the wand the blockage is in the u-bend, but the hose won't constrict then...remove the u-bend which is attached to the vac at the bottom next to the long gray hose - it is attached to the machine with a plastic screw - turn the plastic screw 45 degrees anti-clockwise and clear the blockage from the u-bend.
