Dyson DC15 All Floors - The Ball Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum Questions & Answers
Motorized brush bar not turning on Dyson Vacuum
Apparent common failure is that either the thin yellow and or blue motor drive wires that run from the LH side of the vacuum where the "control board" is located down into the hinge / ball area become stretched and then fray and eventually break. Happened to my Dyson twice. First repaired under warranty, second took about 20 minutes. You need a Torx screwdriver to remove the LH panel ( 4 screws) and also an access panel (2 screws) at the side of the ball which permits access to the blue / yellow wire connectors. I replaced with a new wire and connectors having fed the wires through the access hole making sure sure enough wire was available for the movement of the handle. Also ensure that when the covers are replaced they do not trap any wires underneath.
Valve on top of filter container keeps closing?
Hi Kim,
Thanks for your question and I am sorry for the delay in contacting you.
The valve on the top of the cyclone assembly is commonly known as a 'bleed valve' - it is to allow air into the machine when there is a blockage. This often produces a high-pitched whistle or noise.
I would recommend washing the filters and checking for blockages - you can see this on the following webpage under 'Maintaining your Dyson machine'.

Dc15 roller not working
Hi Terry, it's Jack at Dyson.
DC15's cleaner head is protected by a sensor which shuts the brush bar off if something jams it. Once you've checked the cleaner head for any obstructions, and removed any threads or hair from around the brush bar and end caps, you should be able to reset the machine. Each step is shown in our video guide:
The brush bar will never rotate when the vacuum is standing upright, so make sure you recline your DC15 into the normal vacuuming position before testing it.
If you'd like further help after giving this a try, our experts are on hard to provide assistance. You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).
Power brush keeps going off and on ,when off i
Just had the same problem. Took apart whole power head to look for broken wire and found none. If you see part way up the hose there is a coller with 4 torx screws holding together. This collar is a swivel that allows the hose to spin without twisting or kinking. Take the 4 screws out and open up. You will see 3 contacts that look like fingers that rub on 3 mating steel rings. Wipe the tips of the fingers and wipe clean the rings. Gently bend the fingers out wards so that they apply more pressure to the steel rings. Reassemble and try. Should take no more than 15 mins. Worked for me good luck!
DC15 - scratching wooden floor
You should have an adjustment to remedy this...it is usually called a pile adjustment and is often found in the area above the beater bar.
Is the bar worn? Is there something in the bar causing the scratches?
Change the Hepa filter on Dyson dc15
Now for a proper answer haha,
Remove the bin and underneath you will find a large disc (filter holder) that the bin in sits on. This needs to be removed. Its not as easy as it should be either.
Lay the machine flat on a table and stand behind the filter and pull the two top tab points with some firmly place fingers. Once these tabs release the last bottom tab can be gently flipped off with a flat blade screwdriver from the back (behind the wand hose).
I like to peel out the old filter and clean it up with a razor blade. Once this is done you can fit a lower cost DC14 filter in and save some money. No peeling needed if you buy a DC15 filter for big bucks.
Good luck.
