Install the software on to your PC and try to connect the device to the usb port. If the PC doesn't see the device you should download the firmware upgrade software from this link also and use the "repair function" of the Device Manager. In this case you should not forget press and hold the recovery key of your player when connecting to the PC. The recovery key is the PLAY button.
With this you can repair your player.

I would suggest attempting a Repair by following the below instructions. This process simultaneously updates firmware as well as returns your product to factory settings. Let me know if this helps by rating/commenting this solution!

Your player might hang up. Use a pen tip or other sharp object to insert the RESET hole gently on the side of the player and connect it again to your PC.
If it is still not recognized, your player may be at fault. Try the Philips Device Manager software.

NOTE: Contents will be removed by using the repair function.

1. Install the Philips Device Manager and run it with your player connected to your PC. You can download it under the Software & drivers section.
2. Click the Repair tab in the Device Manager, press and hold the corresponding recovery key on the player when connecting it to your PC.
   
   
   
3. Follow the PC screen to recover your player.

Converter on the suplied CD to transfer to your player.

Make sure your player was fully charged and the lock switch was in the unlocked states. If this OK, try to use Philips Device Manager on your PC and activate the factory settings.

The battery is probably at fault and they may have been a problem when you were charging the mp3 player or something. There are 2 options when there is a problem with the battery but first you must have the battery checked by someone who is certified to service phillips products.
One option is that you replace the battery but this may be hard to. You will keep your music but in many situations it may not be viable as buying a new battery may be more than buying a new mp3 player.
The other option is to buy another mp3 player but of course you will lose the music that was on your previous mp3
Unfortunately this may be the reality if the battery is to blame but just to be on the safe side get a second opinion

Download Rhapsody and use that..... I don't think Itunes works with other brands of mp3 players except their own..... Rhapsody does the same thing and it should fit your needs :)
PS: Rhapsody is legal just like Itunes :)
