My CD player keeps displaying no disk and wont
HelloIf it does not play the cleaner disc, just inspect whether the disc inserted in spins inside it. You can check this by open the upper cover of the player, and inserting a disc into it. If inserted disc spins inside, and the player won't read it, the fault is with its laser pickup unit, and it should be replaced with same type and number. If the disc dos not spins, the fault is with the sled motor [the motor that spins the inserted disc], has damaged, and should be replaced. OK.

The remote will not work
Hi!
First thing to do is to check if the remote really don't work. Here's a very simple way to do that: If you have a digital camera or a mobile phone with a camera, start the camera and point the remote control to the lens. Push a button on the remote and look on the screen of the camera/mobile phone. If the remote control works, the camera will be able to show the IR beam on it's screen.
If no light beam is coming from the remote control, it will be very easy to make it working again. Please remove battery, open the case of the remote by unscrew (if present) any screw, and, using a plastic card open carefully the case. Now please take every part and simply wash it with dish washing liquid or liquid soap and warm water. Now, be sure everything is very good dryied, best with a hair dryer, put all parts carefully togheter and ...that's it.
Please let me know if it helped.
Good luck!

I have a SHARP 3
Hi nsi_79,
Since you have already mentioned that the lens is clean and the discs are in good condition I will go on and discuss the three possible causes of this skipping problem. The first one is weak laser diode, they don't last forever. The second one is, bad or weak carriage motor. This is the motor that moves the laser pickup across the disc. The last one is the pickup assembly which is out of alignment. These will require an authorized repairman to fix the issue.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a sharp cdba300
Hi janicejam572,
The most likely cause is a blown output IC, particularly if there is a short delay between coming out of standby, and the message appearing. "PROTECTION" or "PROTECTED" on audio amplifiers usually indicates that the output relay is deactivated, to either protect the output stages from an excess load - a shorted speaker or cable for instance - or to protect the speakers from DC, which would otherwise be appearing at the output connectors from a blown output transistor in the output chip. Sometimes, the protect circuitry itself fails, and sometimes it monitors supply rails as well. In this case, something as simple as a fuse ( although it may not look like any fuse you would recognize ) can cause the message to appear. Most likely it is the output IC.It can be fixed only by service technician.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

When you connect a radio
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

4 ohm speakers to 8U
Are you referring to whether 8 ohm speakers will work on a 4 ohm impedence amp? The answer is "yes", but with some amps (which are more sensitive than others) there will be a slight mismatch and some distortion but the distortion will be barely noticable. On most consumer goods there is a wide tolerance. I have seen units marked "4 to 16 ohms".
Go figure.
