Refrigerator not cooling

If the refrigerator isn't cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running.
First, answer these questions:
Is the refrigerator completely dead? If so, see β€œIt's stopped completely.”
Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? If not, reset it.
Next, see if the compressor motor is running
The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help.
If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:

The compressor

The Thermostat

The overload, relay, or capacitor

The defrost timer

The condenser fan motor

Cooling is poor
For an overall understanding of how refrigerators should work, read about refrigerators in the How Things Work section of our website. A refrigerator or freezer that is cooling, but cooling poorly, may have a problem in one of several areas:

Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils or a condenser that is clogged with dust, lint, and dirt.
Evaporator coils
Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer. Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets.
The refrigerator is supposed to self-defrost approximately four times in every 24 hour period. If one of the components in the self-defrosting system fails, the refrigerator continues to try to cool. Eventually, though, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There may still be a small amount of cooling because the coils are icy, but with no air flow over the coils, cooling in the refrigerator compartment is quite limited.
Here's an inexpensive, though inconvenient, way to determine if the problem is with the self-defrosting system. Remove all of the perishable food from the refrigerator and freezer, turn the thermostat in the refrigerator to Off, and leave the doors open for 24 to 48 hours. (Be sure to have several towels ready in case the melting frost and ice causes the drip pan to overflow). This allows the refrigerator to defrost "manually." When the frost and ice build-up has completely melted away, turn the thermostat back to a normal setting. If the refrigerator then cools properly, it indicates a problem with one of three components in the self-defrosting system:
The defrost timer
The defrost thermostat (also called the bi-metal switch)
The defrost heater

to check these components .... please refer to my solution in the below link....

http://www.fixya.com/support/t4189238-defroster_not_working_checked_defrost

If it still does not cool properly, there may be a problem with the refrigerant level or the compressor. You may need to consult with a qualified appliance repair technician to further diagnose the problem
Condenser
Self-defrosting refrigerators all have a set of coils and a cooling fan, usually under the refrigerator, that need to be cleaned regularly. If these coils get coated with dust, dirt or lint, the refrigerator may not cool properly. The coils may appear to be a thin, black, wide radiator-like device behind the lower kick-panel. To clean them, disconnect the refrigerator from the power source, use a refrigerator condenser brush (see the Appliance Accessories section) and your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils of any lint, pet hair, etc. You may not be able to get to all of the condenser from the front, it may be necessary to clean the remainder of the condenser from the rear of the refrigerator.

Freezer side works fine. Fridge side not as cold

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Ice maker Kenmore Side by side

You have two separate solenoids to your ice and water. One controls the water the other the ice maker. Check the ice maker solenoid and see if it is getting 110v to it and is opening. You will find it in back of the refer under the cardboard panel. Just follow the hoses.

Icemaker

Look at the ice maker and see what position the ejector bar (white bar with fingers that turns and ejects the ice).  Looking at the ice maker from the front (front is white plastic cover) the ejector bar should be in the 2-3 o'clock position .  If it is not then the module is broken.  In this case the module and ice maker thermostat need to be replaced.  If not sure how to do this repair then just buy a new ice maker.  Let me know what you find and we can go further if necessary.  This is the first thing to check.

Whirlpool side by side model number ED22GWXFN01

Here's the deal. You probably didn't need the overload. Most likely you have a problem with your condenser fan motor. To check move the refer out from the wall and pull the cardboard panel at the bottom of the refer. Check to make sure the motor is running at a high speed. If not you will have to change it as there are no oiling points. If that isn't the problem open the freezer door and remove the back panel. Check to see if your evap. fan is running at high speed. Then check to see if your evaporator is iced up. If so either your fan is not running fast enough or your defrost heater is out. To check disconnect the heater and take a continuity check at each lead end you should register infinity. Which means your meter will peg itself over to the left side. If that is okay the only other thing that could be causing the problem would be the heater thermo which tells the heater when to come on. You will see it attached to the evaporator coils. Hope that helps. If so e-mail me.

Amana side by side refrigerator compressor locked up

More than likely, if there were any power issues,it would be low voltage that would cause it to overheat and lock up shaft to bearing. But power surges can cause problems if they are sustained as well. Nameplate rating on these is 115 volts and it will operate up to 10% above or below that voltage (+/- 11.5 volts). But when you get to the fringe voltages for extended periods you increase the risks of failures.

Refrigerator

You didn't mention it, but I'll bet there's a "humm" followed by a "click" noise coming from the back of the fridge. Even if you don't hear the noise, the starter on the compressor has failed. One of two things cause this... 1.) A mechanically failed starter. 2.) A seized compressor. If it's the starter only, you are in good shape. If it's #2 and the unit is less than 5 years old, it'll be a warranty claim. If the unit is less than 5 years old... do not attempt the repair yourself. Because, if you do and find the compressor locked up, you have voided your warranty and they will not repair for free. If it's over 5? Install a starter. We need the FULL model number off of your fridge to provide steps on this. It's located on a data tag affixed to the inner fresh food section lining. Most likely near the top on the right. Please post back with these numbers if you require further assistance.

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator 1999

It is normal for that to be warm but not hot. you need to make sure that the condensor coils under the refrigerator is free of dust. You can get to it by removing the back cover and clean it with a vacume. Also make sure the fan at the compressor is operating. and also clean the fan blades while your there. Doing this and making sure the fan is working should solve your problem. Also in the summer time when its hot and humid the refrigerator has to work longer and harder to keep it cold. so you may notice the front just a little warmer then usual, but it should not be hot that you cant touch it. God luck

Kenmore side by side no longer freezing on freezer side and not as cold as it should be on both sides

We had the same thing happened. We called Sears and scheduled a repair. Apparently there is a small electric heater that keeps the coils from freezing up and had to be replaced, about $80, I think. Not sure if that is your problem.

Freezer/Refigerator not working

You need to check if the compressor is running. If it is not the relay on the compressor might be blown out. That is a very comon part on whirlpool made units. Unplug the unit and remove the cover on the compressor and take the relay off. If you shake it and you hear a lot of noise from it like small rocks the relay is bad. Its not a expensive part ti replace.

Side by side refrigerator is not cooling.

If this click comes from a little box mounted on top of the compressor, you're usually looking at either a starter or a compressor motor problem. A new starter (the thing inside that box) is just about cheap enough to replace, just accepting the risk it won't work. With a sealed compressor, a motor failure probably spells the end of the road. A.

Kenmore Refrigerator 795.75004401. The freezer seems to be working fine but the fridge part is not. Checked the condenser coils and they are free of dust. The condenser fan is working as well.

Turn it off by removing the wall plug for 10 minutes. This will do a power rest to the control electronics. This is a bottom mounted freezer, so cold air for the fridge is vented upwards by a fan. Make sure it is running and there are no ice blockages. Strangely they call the fan in the fridge an Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor. The part is obsolete anyway. If it normally says 4 for the fridge, that would be 4 degrees Centigrade, which means the freezer should show minus 18'C. Or 36'F Fridge / 0' F Freezer/ This shows all the parts. https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model/3tradtge4f-000582/kenmore-79575004401-bottom-mount-refrigerator-parts ..
