Bad solenoid or sticking relay
It is likely to be one of 2 things, the starting relay is stuck on, this can happen on an old worn relay and the contact fuse together and don't release, the other likely cause is in the ignition switch and the contact is stuck and not disengaging. You could try WD-40 on the ignition switch and if you can locate the relay try tapping it with the handle of a screwdriver or something similar, this may work temporarily but you will need to pop a new one in if it is the relay.
I have had this problem occasionally on my 2008 when the vehicle is hot and it is over 100F outside with the AC running. Turn the key off and then starts correctly, but today burned up the alternator as well.
There is a cube relay in the box next to the fusebox under the hoof near the battery that is often the culprit and it is too hot to handle.

SOURCE: How do you un stick
you can temporarliy "un-stick" the ignition by inserting the key as you would you start the vehicle. then tap the end of the key a few times with the palm of your hand almost as you are trying to drive it in further. this generaly works. but keep in mind that the only fix is to replace the ignition lock cylinder. and make sure that the key is not twisted or bent because that could also inhibit the key from turning properly

Hi,
First of all, I take it you are using your seatbelt.
There is a small micro switch in the bottom of the seatbelt plug.
Check that it`s still in place. It`s only a contact breaker switch.
You could unwire it to stop the annoying light, but will need to fix it for the next MOT

It is likely one of your battery cables loose. Same thing just happened to me today. What you need to do is first lock the doors, and close them. Then you need to disconnect, and reconnect the battery cable, then if the security lights still blink you must use your key to unlock the door, then it should stop blinking, and start just fine.

Do you have an alarm on this? If you do, that is most likely the problem. There seems to be a problem with the alarms. You may want to have a new key made just in case. Sometimes the keys are magnetically charged and after time, it wears off.
