Bad ignition switch,
Bad neutral safety switch
Bad starter relay.
Bad starter.

If you understand how relays work, you can remove the relay in the car and jump the switch pins together. If the starter motor turns the engine, you problem is the first 3. If not, its the starter itself.

There is a vacuum leak under the hood. If it's a 6 cylinder, look on the drivers side for a vacuum line that runs vertical with a 90 degree angle fitting to the manifold. That one usually comes off. If it is a V8 look on the battery side for a broken or corroded vacuum line.

This means it is the solenoid. But usually on those the starter and solenoid are one unit. They can be purchased individually, but it is usually almost as expensive as replacing the whole unit.

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Wont turn over. There is power to the system. There is a click coming from the fuse box area but nothing else. It doesn't even try to start.

if this is something that just happened now, make sure the car is on park, and that may be what's wrong. but if you have had trouble with it before, you may have a bad starter. best luck to you.

After a short drive my jeep wont start has power no click or crank

Read this post about a lot of electrical problems. It will give you an idea on what to look for.

When it does not crank, check to see if voltage is getting to the starter. If it is, hit the starter. If it starts , replace it.

Hello I am in a pickle. Here is the situation. I am haveing start up issues with my 97 grand cherokee. the first time it was because the battery cables were not cleaned and connected tightly. Now it is...

In order for your starter to operate, you need 12v at the main cable and that reading should not drop below 9.5 with the key turned to the start position. You also need to see 12v at the small trigger wire terminal with the key turned to start. (same terminal you jumped to with your screwdriver).
If you have replacement terminal ends on your battery cables, make sure the wires are clean as well as the contact surfaces on the battery. Also make sure that the grounds are good.
Your power going to the trigger wire goes through the neutral safety switch and the starter relay in the power distribution center. A fuse is either good or it has failed. It will not work "sometimes"
If you have power at both ends of each fuse they are good.
If you have power (as I outlined) at the starter, chances are that the starter itself has worn out.

Put key in.. gauges work.. have power.. wont start.. its not clicking.. i think maybe a relay for the starter, not the starter it's self.. 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I-6.. your oppion?

I THINK YOUR RIGHT! CHECK FUSES AND RELAYS FOR POWER ALSO IF THE POWER SUPPLY TO STARTER IS NOT A GOOD CONNECTION THEN IT WILL FAIL TO EVEN TRY TO START. GOOD LUCK!
