2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Starter

When trying to start my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee this morning, the engine will not turn over after several attempts. This problem started a few months ago but before, the engine would start when I would pull out the key from the ignition, reinsert it, turn the ingnition again and the engine would start. I can hear a clicking sound at the engine and both front doors (power locks?) when I turn the ignition. The battery is new.

Any suggestions?

The car does not have an alarm. In reading other forums, the problem may be with the starter, ignition module or a relay. Before I start taking it apart, it would be helpful to know if one of these parts (or another part) is more likely to be the problem.

I also noticed when I turn the ignition, the digital clock readout on the radio tuns off until I stop turning the ignition.

Do you have an alarm on this? If you do, that is most likely the problem. There seems to be a problem with the alarms. You may want to have a new key made just in case. Sometimes the keys are magnetically charged and after time, it wears off.

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee drive it a while turn the engine off wont start back up

Your starter solenoid armature is sticking. It is mounted atop the starter and the heat from the exhaust manifold sometimes causes this problem on older systems. You can try a temporary fix by placing some type of heat shield over the solenoid using something that is fire proof but replacing the solenoid will eventually be necessary.

My car won't start. Battery is good, wires are good and there is no corrosion. When I turn the key it makes one click and that's it. The lights and the radio work fine. There is no dimming when I try to...

could be the starter. check under vehicle near "rear" of engine for a cylindrical item with a wire connection. should have an "arm" that moves forward with "teeth" to turn flywheel with. some people beat on their starter with a wrench to get it to work. use wd40 to loosen any dirt that may be preventing the arm from operating.

Having trouble with 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited not starting when the key is turned. It clicks but does not fire. It takes several tries to get the engine to start.

Three items to check there. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and secure, check the starter relay (quick way is to steal another in the power center and switch them). Also check the engine grounds and that the starter solenoid is engaging. If you have power at the small terminal on the starter when the key is turned to start, good bet the starter is bad.

My jeep grand cherokee laredo, 2000, wont start... engine turns over - battery works - just won't start???

engine turns over so starter is ok. chrysler computer can cause this situation. Many computer module warranties were extended by chrysler because of problems. check with dealer. They can scan computer to verify. Make sure you try starting fluid first to see if fuel pump is out. have someone spray into air filter box while trying to start car. if pump is bad it will start.

Jeep wont start

The crank position sensor is on the bell housing of the transmission, very hard to see, on passenger side, below the valve cover, depending if it is an early 2000 or a later 2000 model.
