Steering wheel violently shakes.

Drove to the beach Monday, no problem drove like a dream. Took it north Wednesday, as soon as I hit I 5 my steering wheel started to violently shake. Stopped a little down the road, but when I got back to town less than 2 miles from home started to shake so bad I had to pull over. We just bought it Saturday. 100,000 miles 2002 Touring Edition. I also hear a knocking on the front passanger side. Got in to take it to Schwabs the next morning and nothing. No shaking, No knocking. Drives perfect again. ????

I hope you bought this at a dealer, and you have a warranty. Sounds like someone got rid of it because of this problem. Is the knocking sound only when it's shaking? You might want to run the car's vin through a service like carfax to see if it was in an accident before your purchase. I have checked cars that I knew were in an accident ($6k damage on one I knew the history of, and it did not show up in the report, even though the police responded and wrote up a report) so it isn't a 100% guarantee it never was hit, but it could explain the weird problem if something shows up. Have the motor mounts and front end suspension checked, and good luck.

That is usually caused by bad engine mount this condition usually changes the distance of the cv joint and the differential which cause the cv joint to shake. also check your ball joints.

Sounds like the CV axel is going bad or a combination of that and the axel working is way out of the trans mission. Does it get worse turning and when its not doing it is it smooth at haghway speeds. Will it do it cold?

I got in an acciden my car drove fine right after but a few minutes later the steering wheel wouldnt turn the tires anymore, what could it be?

If he hit you hard he probably hit the front wheel. If yes, the most likely problem is the track rod ends. These are adjustable links that connect the wheels to the steering rack assembly. They connect to the wheel hub behind the brake disc with ball joint pivots that can snap if hit too hard.
The impact from an accident can create a shock wave of damage so there could be damage to the steering rack as well as the suspension links and ball joints.

Sound like you may need a new power steering pump or rack and pinion. Have you noticed any leaks from the vehicle? If you've had the vehicle for 21yrs, then I would have to go with the power steering pump is begining to fail. Hope this helps.

Steering and real bad vibration in front end

That is known as "the death wobble" for very obvious reasons. You need to install steering dampeners . They look like shocks and they mount between the drag link and the frame. They will cure the problem. Don't delay putting them on your Jeep. Hope this helps.

Shake in steering wheel

I believe you need your disk brake rotors turned to be true again or have them replaced. Whe you use your brakes a lot and kit puddles of cold water then it will warp the rotors which will cause the violent shaking. You may not feel it in the brake pedal even if it is warped rotors. If you don't think you have warped rotors then you should be very careful driving it because it will probably be in the steering sector arm or the idler arm on the steering shaft.
